Good old Sgt Carter, wearing trops and a Smoky, was the only USO "show" I saw in 1966. He stopped by my hooch at Phu Bai (in March or April), introduced himself, and shook my hand. I'm still waiting for Ann Margret to show up.

Just watched an episode of Gomer Pyle. Looked up Frank Sutton on Wikipedia. It says he was made an honorary Sergeant in the Marine Corps. So I did a name search for him at the Corps' website and found nothing. I did find this thread here and clicked on the link in thedrifter's message. Unfortunately, that website is no longer valid. Will continue searching...

The series itself was not favorable to Marines, but it also cut into my time on the parade deck with my herd of TURDS - Trainee Under Ridged Discipline. Time was precious 75-77.

Was a good show better than most garbage we see today.
