Marines to mark 233rd anniversary

U.S. Marine Corps Detachment Athens, based at the Navy Supply Corps School, will celebrate the 233rd anniversary of the corps' founding at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Classic Center.
The banquet, which is open to the public, will feature Gunnery Sgt. William E. Bodette of the Marine Logistics Base at Albany. Bodette won the Bronze Star for his tactical decisions in three separate ambushes in Afghanistan and was featured in the History Channel program "Shootout!"
Tickets are $40 and may be purchased by contacting the Marine Detachment at (706) 355-7435.
