So my original ship date was 20081103. I went to see my recruiter today to sign my Infantry contract. About an hour after I left, he called me and informed me that my ship date had been pushed back to 2001117. His reason was that his command said I had to be in the DEP for 60 days before I can ship out. I've never heard of that before, any Marines or Poolees have some insight?

Mine was pushed back from 20081024 to 20081117 as well. My SSgt said it was for timing reasons; to be an MP, one must be 19, so he timed my boot camp ship date perfectly with my birthday next year.

But I don't know enough about the DEP to confirm if your recruiter was honest or if there was a different reason. Either way, we're going to boot on the same day. SD or PI?

Have fun with the fleas. Hollywood's my route. In either case, I know how you're feeling with your ship date getting bumped back. I'd be in boot right now if my SSgt hadn't swapped mine. It sucks, but the time will fly by. Just enjoy your freedom for now.

I hear there isn't any sand fleas this time of year. As far as waiting, I'm just kind of bummed because I've pretty much psyched myself up into leaving within the next few days. I am physically ready, now just a waiting game. In the grand scheme of things though, two more weeks is nothing.

You were only pushed back 2 weeks? Relax, you now have two more weeks to shoot for 300 PFT.

Yes sir, only 2 weeks. You are correct, it is not a big deal, but it just seems like a long time when you're excited to do something.

First, the sandfleas suck in October. They come out a lot more when its a nice day and around 60-70 degrees (which it is around now).
I didn't think you had to be in the DEP for 60 days though, because anyone who enlists is in the DEP, whether it is for 2 days or half a year. Thats what my recruiter explained to me... but he also said that they are moving people's ship dates back due to the high number or poolies going down to PI...

Not happy to hear about the sand fleas, but I guess that is part of boot camp. I think they moved my date because I was the third guy shipping out the 3rd. So I believe they wanted to split it up a bit.

I was told by the SSgt at MEPS that I had to ship out within 90 days. I'm assuming this is because I'm not a senior in high school.

I don't think that means anything. I am 24 years old, so def. not a highschool senior.

Sorry about that, I too had to re-read my post a few times to check the error.

I've never heard of anyone having to be in the DEP for a certain amount of time. I went to boot camp with guys that had been in the DEP for almost a whole year and with some guys who enlisted the weekend they shipped

Thats wrong. I graduated high school this past school year, I've been DEP'd in since July, and my original ship date was 20081229. Now it is 20090112. That is well over 90 days. I believe I heard my recruiter say that you cannot be in the DEP for over 360 days.

You have up to 360 days I think. The recruiter can't really tell you that you have to leave at any certain time, but you do have to leave within the given 360 days.

This wasn't the recruiter that told me this... This was the SSgt liason at MEPS. However, the fact I may be considered prior service of all 34 days, could be the reason. However, I wanted to ship quick anyways.
