CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Eleven Marine base clubs and lodges on Okinawa and three on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni have been named among the best in the Corps.

Awards for the Okinawa Marine clubs judged "excellent" for operations in fiscal year 2007 were handed to Marine Corps Community Services staff at a luncheon Thursday at the Butler Officers Club.

It was the third consecutive year MCCS on Okinawa led all Marine Corps installations in the number of awards, according to a release.

Last year MCCS clubs and restaurants on Okinawa served about 1.2 million customers, according to MCCS chief business officer Tony LaBarre. He called the success a result of "embracing constant change."

"As good as we were last year, we’re going to be even better next year," he said. "It’s about hiring the right people for the job and giving them the proper tools to do it, and rewarding them lets them know their efforts are being recognized."

The 11 clubs and lodges were among 49 MCCS activities at 12 installations worldwide that earned the excellent rating.

Operations receiving the MCCS Food & Hospitality Excellence Awards on Okinawa were: Bayview Enlisted Club and Courtney Lodge at Camp Courtney; Beachhead Consolidated Club and Oura Wan Beach Cottages at Camp Schwab; Butler Officers Club, Globe & Anchor Enlisted Club and WestPac Lodge on Camp Foster; Corpsman’s Cove on Camp Lester; Habu Pit Consolidated Club and Thirsty’s Enlisted Club on MCAS Futenma; and The Palms Consolidated Club at Camp Hansen.

The three facilities at Iwakuni rated excellent were Club Iwakuni, Crossroads Food Court and the Temporary Lodging Facility.
