N.D. Marines return as more to be activated
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The U.S. Marine Corps says about 20 Twin Cities reserve Marines who have been deployed in Iraq for the last seven months will return at the end of this month.
Maj. Lisa Souders said Saturday the Marines were deployed in March as military police, performing border security and other combat and support operations.
She says about a dozen Marines from a detachment in Wahpeton, N.D., will return with them.
As the troops come back, about 150 will be called up. Souders says about 50 Marines from the Twin Cities, about 20 from North Dakota and about 80 from a battalion in Rochester, N.Y. will be activated in December.
Those troops will deploy to Iraq in the spring and will be activated for about 12 months in all.
