After recently talking to my father about myself joining the Marine Corps, he would like to join the military as well, but will most likely go Army. He is 41 years old, and has degrees in both engineering and law. First of all, what is the maximum age for joining the Corps with no prior service? Do they take reserves this late? Would the 4421 (legal specialist) MOS be a good fit for him?

I believe the oldest you can be to enlist is somewhere between 35-40, I think you need to be re-enlisting to push the 40 year mark though. I dont think they'll take your dad.

No problem! I wish him the best of luck! I'm guessing your parents are divorced?

When you say he has a degree in law, do you mean he is an attorney (J.D.) or that he a lesser degree? As a lawyer things may change for him. I know that those with specialized degrees (law, ministry, medicine) are given many waivers in other services, the Marine Corps may work the same way.

Yes, I don't blame him either;)

And he is an attorney, mostly doing real estate law although he also has a degree in criminal law (not sure on specifics, but know he is an attorney with JD)

Well in that case then he might be able to join the commissioned side of the Marine corps granted that he isn't too old. Commissioned is probably the way to go for him so that he doesn't waste his degree. And on the plus side you get paid Seargent's pay right out of OCS how about that s***?!

Thank you, Corporal. I will talk to him about this, and hopefully update you guys after seeing a recruiter.
