Luce Forward Assists the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund at the Miramar Air Show

Posted on Thursday, October 02, 2008

Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps, a full-service California law firm, today announced it will donate $2,500 to support injured U.S. Marines through the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The firm, in conjunction with CommNexus and other local companies, will donate a collective total of $5,000.

In addition, during the upcoming Miramar Air Show, the companies have set up computer terminals in a corporate chalet on the runway, where those in attendance can learn about the charity and make donations. Last year, the companies were able to raise an additional $7,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund at the show.

Founded in 2004, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides financial assistance to Marines injured in combat and in training, to help defray expenses incurred during hospitalization, rehabilitation and recovery. It also assists the families of Marines and other service members injured while in direct support of Marine units.

“The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is an incredible organization, providing an invaluable service to our Marines,” said Vice Admiral Walter R. Davis, USN (Ret), a member of the CommNexus Board of Directors. “Since September 11, 2001, more than 5,000 Marines have been wounded serving our nation. The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund alleviates the financial burden placed on the families of the injured marine, and allows them to assist in the recovery of their loved one.”

Luce Forward, CommNexus and other participants will present their donation to Wendy Lethin, director of community relations for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, at a private event at the Miramar Air Show on October 5.

In 2004, a small group of concerned Marine Corps spouses founded the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund to provide financial grants and other assistance to the Marines, sailors and families of those injured serving our nation. To date, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund has had more than 1,400 cases and provided more than $5 million in grants, financed by generous donors from across the United States.

“On behalf of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, I would like to thank CommNexus and Luce Forward for their interest in, and support of, our organization,” said Lethin. “This type donation helps to defray the substantial costs so many injured Marines and their families face. We are grateful for the support provided by the San Diego business community.”
