I'm currently TAD from my unit but I'm still going to their ball. My question is, can I wear an evening gown? Should I or shouldn't I? I'd love to wear something nice but my uniform makes me what I am. Plus I want to take a picture with my husband but so far I haven't seen Marine couples on the picture of the ball (of them both wearing blues). I'd like to see some if y'all have any. Appreciated.

I would say wear your blues you earned them. Also if you go in a evening dress you are just one of the ladies, but you are special.

'their ball' - it is YOUR ball also - MARINE!!
'evening gown' - Why? It is the Marine Corps Ball. You are a Marine!
'wear something nice' - again, you are a Marine. You have a set of blues. Wear them.
'take a picture' - so take a picture, IN your blues - Remember, Marine Corps Ball!!
Just my 2 cents!

yeah I'm thinking about wearing a suit or tux to the MC Ball too...because I'm commissioning in May and I don't wanna spend money getting new enlisted uniforms that won't fit me :-( (I weighed 160 lbs in boot camp, I now weigh 200+ lbs)

According to tradition, the Dress Blues is as Formal as you can get, for any ocassion! If any of us old salts have a set of Blues that fit us, according to regulations, we can wear them as well. But they must be worn according to regulations, right down to the haircut! Of course all the ribbons or medals and badges and such. It give us a change to strut our stuff.

IMHO if a Married Marine couple attends the Ball, it makes a statement when they both wear the Blues! Besides, you both earned that right, didn't you? Any woman can wear a gown, but how many women can wear the Blues?

Besides it stops stupid questions, like "are you a wife or a Marine"! Any woman can be escorted (the guest) at the Ball by any Marine

You are a Marine..... wear your blues. If you showed up to the Ball and I was there knowing you are a Marine from the unit and you were not in uniform..... I would send you away or make you stand door duty. Call me an a**hole if you want but I wouldn't think twice about it. My wife and I both wore our blues to all of the Marine Corps Balls we attended while I was still active duty. She wouldn't even wear a gown to a Ball that wasn't her own. It's a thing called PRIDE.

Only time I ever wore a gown to a Marine Corps ball was when I was a poolee. My profile pic is right there of my hubby and I both in our blues.

Holy cow, I hope that's muscle!

I weighed about 155 coming out of bootcamp and now I weigh around 175lbs.
