Recently, in a moment of financial weakness, I got a payday loan which I defaulted on. I pretty much know how to deal with them but am having trouble finding info on how to check for state licenses and registry. I live in NY where internet payday loans are illegal. Any information would be welcome. PM me if you prefer. Thanks Brothers and Sisters.

I 'd say check with the local BBB. Also check public records, they should have a copy of the license so that they can operate in the area.

What part of NY are we talking about?

Oh yeah, I know that area. Like I said, check public records and the BBB. That should get you started.

Did I read the OP correctly? You borrowed money, defaulted on the contract, and you need help checking the license/registration of the people you got the loan from? The correct answer to your problem would be to live up to your promise to repay the money. Whether it was legal in the first place for them to loan it to you is moot. Honor is a treasure you can't buy, it must be earned.

I agree with Impaler 100%....!......!!!!

I was in units that held integrity and personal pride very high.

If you were my Marine. The pay day loan company would be called for total pay off amount and the coffee fund etc would be raided for fear of the community seeing my Marines as THIEVES. You would be accountable to the unit for paying back a loan you defaulted on, do to your choices in life when learning it the hard way.

Just my 2 cents.....
