So I report to Camp Johnson next week. I am going to be an 0431 Embarkation Specialist. I am looking for a bit of information about Camp Johnson and my new MOS. The school is only 5 weeks, and I should pick up Cpl while I am there.

Thank you all.

what the heck is that mos?? Before I went 03 I was a 3521 (mech) our school was 15 wks at camp johnson. 15 wks to be a glorified lube tech for the 998's and 5 tons lol

Johnson is ok, we spent most of our libo at the mall or wal mart for whatever frickin reason, and driftwood lol

Camp Johnson sucked for me. You're asking about Johnson, not Jacksonville right?

The only thing there was for me to do at Johnson was go to the Rec Center to get on the internet/order some greasy food and go to the gym.

Other than those two things you're going to have to go into town to do anything interesting.

I had a couple classes in the building your classes are going to be in. The building is brand new, and pretty nice. I know absolutely nothing about the MOS itself though.

Good luck.

well, just remember that you can only pick up if you have an MOS now, if you are getting there without one (there are reservists like that out there) then you won't pick up... and if you do, you'll have to pick up in that MOS... you don't rate your new MOS until you graduate.

Red Patchers..... they are the guys hooking up the helos when they are carrying hummwvs underneath... and you're always the first on the ground... the reason you have the Red Patch is because you go back and forth from the landing zone, and they don't want Marines hitching a ride back saying they are embarkers....... so just remember to pre-wash the blood strip so it doesn't bleed when you make it a patch and have it sewn on. KILL!

Embarkers don't wear red patches. I think that is just 0481's, but I could be mistaken.

Embark works with battalion S4, you will be doing logistics, working out movements of personell and equipment. I don't know anything about the school, all I know is admin school has tons of....well you'll see.

Anyways, the logistics guys in my battalion are always the first to go somewhere (aka if we have a training event) and the last ones to leave. I don't know exactly what they do or how they do it, but that's the gist of it.

I am afraid that isn't how it works now Staff Sergeant. I was a 2600 and am now a 0400. After I finish school I will be a 0431. I am allowed to pick up as a 0431 now, the catch is if I don't finish school I will be demoted.

Thank you for all the information everyone.

I heard that the Libo has changed a bit in the 2 yrs since I have been on Johnson; or 'Camp Jailhouse' as a few have described it. Johnson was the biggest peice of crap I have dealt with in my career, so far; and by no means was I a **** bag. I had gone after 2.5 yrs TIS, and got treated like I just stepped off the 'Yellow Footprints'. That was a different schoolhouse, and time, but the other schools weren't too much better, according to other Marines. Perhaps it has changed since then.

When I was there (June-Aug 2008) all the schools, with the exception of mine (3400) was always locked down for one reason or another. The other schools were so big there was always a dumb Marine ****ing up and killing everybody else's fun (I'm blessed to serve in a MOS with only 1000 Marines, so my school/class was TINY!)

The other schools had formations every morning and evening. They had 2300 formations on Friday and Saturday and 2000 formations on Sundays. They did Chinese field days once a week. Their lives pretty much sucked, and honestly, they deserved it because they were **** ups.

BR34, are you a 3432, or a 51? I'm a 3451, myself.

cw2533, Camp Johnson is located at Camp Lejeune. It was initially the training facility used for training African American Recruits; Montford Point, as it was known, then. I do not recall specifics as to when Montford Point was started, nor when it's name was changed to the current one.

montford point was from 64-69.... after 69 the moved them to PI and SD.... it opened after the military started accepting African Americans in. then after the civil rights passed is when it became complete integration.

johnson doesn't suck, just the kids complaining about it. I had fun the first time around... I was even there when the planes hit the towers... so imagine that kind of lock-down. You're treated like kids because you act like it, so you should police your own like we did.

point being, stop complaining because every incident is preventable at some level or another.

oh, and you're right embarkers are not red-patchers.... I got lost in numbers

embarkers are the guys who get everything ready to deploy............ I don't envy those guys.

I had a secondary of 0431. You will learn how to pack equipment on every vehicle, plane, ship, and any other thing the Corps decides to carry equipment on. You will learn how to weigh everything and make sure all pallets are properly put together and packed and then covered with cargo nets.

You are also going to learn alot about HazMat and will find that ALL units will try to hide **** in their Embark boxes that is not suppose to be shipped. All in all though it's a lot of fun, and a lot of work when you go somewhere.
