Twentynine Palms Marine dies in Afghanistan

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Defense Department says a 29-year-old Marine died while supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan.
Sgt. Jerome Bell Jr. died Sept. 19. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Bell joined the Marine Corps in November 1998 and had been deployed to Iraq before his most recent deployment to Afghanistan. He served as a motor transport operator.
Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Superintendent William Speck remembers Bell as a good student who was in the construction trades program, particularly heavy equipment repair and operations.
