View Full Version : Does this annoy anyone else?

Every now and then walking through my college hallways I'll run into someone wearing a UMSC or Marine shirt. So of course I stop and ask them if they were in. Usually they say they served or a family member is serving or has served. Good to go. But every now and then I'll get that jackass that'll say something along the lines of "Nah, I just think the Marines are cool" or "I just thought it was a cool t-shirt". One time I even asked a girl who was wearing the green PT sweats if she was in and she said "Some guy I spent the night with left this at my place." Well, roger that! But does it bother anyone else when civilians who have no connection to the Corps whatsoever parade around in UMSC shirts and whatnot? I mean, it takes every nerve in my being to not tell them to take it off and earn it if they want to wear it. Am I just being a little egotistical because I served in the greatest military organization in the world?

Most people who wear their favorite sports jerseys probably never played on those teams either much less the sport. What's the harm? It's a t-shirt, not a uniform. Take it as a form of flattery.

You've every right to an ego.

One thing is expressing their admiration or supporting our reason for being. It used to bug me when I 1st joined believing they hadn't undergone what we have so they haven't the right to celebrate. "Who the hell were they", right?

I got over it. Those novelty T's mean nothing compared to my cammies & Blues. Mine!

I agree with Winger.

Look at it as free advertising, publicity and recuiting. People love us or think we're cool so they wear shirts about us. Along with flattery, it shows that people, on some level, support us.

Efforts,

Very true. If I saw someone I didn't think was a Marine sporting some of our Uniforms I'd be all over them like a fat kid on a twinky! Those are ours, by right and privilege.

I agree with these other Marines after all it is just a T-shirt not a uniform. Most of those folks are just trying to be Patriotic. What ticks me off are the ones wearing a T-shirt that disrespects the Corps or our Country. Those folks I just want to beat the sh** out of.

I guess it's better then seeing some jackass in a Westboro Baptist Church t-shirt. Now that dude I would have to pounce on.

I agree a uniform is a totally different story.

Imitation is often the most sincere form of flattery. . . I have no problem with an American wearing a t-shirt with US Marines on it. Better that than some Socialist figure, or vile comment. . .

Slap em on the back and say Semper Fi, and watch the looks you get as you explain what it means to be a United States Marine. . . You might just touch a heart.

A poser annoys me! To support the Marine Corps...go for it! A bunch of people like the Marine Corps! Thank them for not demonstrating against it/us!

Even if you have to sleep with one to get clothes....but if he left them and didn't come back.... evidently the occasion wasn't too memorable!

At least some admit to having not earned it. I don't see a problem with it, unless the dude is a nasty fat body. Then I have to put myself in check and walk on.

Uniform really gets my last nerve. Saw some knuckle head wearing an Alpha blouse at a street festival hear and town. Both my dad and I mad a bee line for him from different directions. He did take it off after his " boys " made fun of him for getting embaresed. :D

I was given a Marine shirt by a Marine, so I wear mine proudly in support, and quickly tell anyone asking I did not serve. I offer a Semper Fi, shake their hand and buy them a beer. It is my favorite.

I have no problem with it as long as you're not a poser. The only time I ever got upset was with a sixteen year old kid. His pants were hanging half way down his azz. I stoppped him, gave him a history lesson about my beloved Corps and what wearing that shirt meant. He stood there and took my DI attitude until I was done. He then pulled up his pants and with a tear in his eye said" Thank you for your service. I will never disrespect the men who served so I could be free to wear this shirt". Okay, then I was floored. I thanked him and we went on about our lives.

My son some times wears a Marine Corps tee shirt or a hat,Ifeel he does that out of respect for me and the Marines. He had a good teacher.

I dont mind it too much as long as they dont do something stupid while wearing it; i.e., talking loud and obnoxious in public, stupid stunts, and something un-professional.

You don't know how many times I see rent-a-cops get off of work (at the mall) then untuck their shirts (sloppy) and start doing stupid stuff (probably cause their in like their late teens early 20s).

Another thing that boils my blood is when I see soldiers at the mall in their ACU's and they act like they're back on "the block." Hitting on girls, chewing gum, walking and talking on their cell phones, walking like a gangsta, walking in a huge crowd like they own the place, and giving a sloppy and unprofessional appearance.

As Marines, I hope we keep our professionalism in and out of uniform, oorah.

I have actually never seen anyone wearing one and not be in the Corps or know someone who is. Either way it is free advertising (espcially on a good looking gal...you know someone is going to look at her haha)

Both my parents, my siblings, and a few exs still walk around in USMC shirts all the time. People are always asking them about it. My dad is always wearing his "My son is a United States Marine" shirt and people are always walking up to him tell him to give me there regards. He has even had a few girls ask for my number. Which is quite amusing. So no it does not bother me. But you best believe if I see someone wearing a USMC shirt and acting a fool then they are going to get Devil Dogged.
I don't have a problem with them wearing it but they better not disrespect us by wearing it!

You think it boils your blood? Try being one of the few Soldiers that acts appropriately at ALL times when wearing the uniform.

Some of those nasty fat bodies that wear the tee shirts and sweats may not be as lean but just as mean,so watch what you say. They may have earned the title!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Therefore they deserve to wear them..

Thats different though. Marines can spot another Marine. I was standing in line at a store one time and an older Marine who served in NAM just came up to me and started talking to me. It works both ways too. Us younger guys and spot the old salts a mile away. Usually by the way they talk and act. The nasty fat bodies being talked about are usually around the ages of 18-25 and have been nipple feed by mommy for so long they think just wearing a Marine Corps shirt is going to get them somewhere in life.

I very proudly wear my "USMC" and "Proud Parent of a US Marine" shirts all of the time. My vehicle also has "Proud Parent" stickers on them. My husband on the other hand will only wear a shirt or hat if it says "Proud Parent". He feels that since he is not a Marine, he does not have the right to wear the shirt unless it has the word "parent" on it.

But does it bother anyone else when civilians who have no connection to the Corps whatsoever parade around in UMSC shirts and whatnot?Tee's, sweats and ball caps nawww. With a heavy concentration of rad lib's milling around city's of the Pac NW. Marines could stand more popular support. When people wear fragments of dress uniforms with rank insignia and or EGA attached, blood stripes, covers with scrambled eggs, this makes me grimace. But i ain't gonna launch into a sidewalk throw down and strip the ass holehttp://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif

I know im just a MArine Hopeful but that is cool. I work for my recruiter so if you think of Joining the Corps you come to me and ask me questions and I usally tell them when the Marine REcruiters are coming and they talk to the hopefuls(I also help them by keeping them away from the Army Recruiters). I take them aside before the recruiters come because Gunnery Sergeant Hearst,Staff Sergeant Moore and Sergeant Washington hate kids who sag there Pants wear chains and wear big old shirts they shewed me out the first time they met me but then they got to know me and we are real good friends they are my brothers.

I met a young man who was wearing USMarine Recon shirt, I was up at Big Bear with my grandkids. He replied "He had joined but didn't make it." I had already replied to him, Semper Fi. I was really disapointed, because I thought by wearing the shirt he was Recon. WHATEVER, Semper Fi Sheila Hays LadyM59.

You know, it really amuses me to read these replies, and hear that so many would stop a civi or service member on the streets, to correct or inquire about why they are wearing USMC memorabilia or uniform items. When, there are Marines everday, on every base in the world, that wear our uniforms INCORRECTLY, walking and talking on cell phones (IN UNIFORM!) chewing gum (IN UNIFORM) and NO ONE CORRECTS THAT!!! Hell, most of them are our peers and buddies... Where is our pride, professionalism, and heart when this happens within OUR CORPS?

I Don't know... Maybe No one want to realize this is an on-going battle that really has no end or resolve. We as Marines are fearless in Battles but heartless when it comes to challenging others to uphold our Traditions and maintain conformity in professionalism (That is what everyone here is talking about right?) I think, we all as a brotherhood, as a Corps, need to really learn and understand what's going on Inside the Walls, instead of what's going on Outside the same...

When I was way way boot an old salt spray painted his boots gold tied them together and tossed them over a telephone line. He pitched his seabag down the hall. I grabbed a couple t-shirts and some blues pants. Later I was traveling and had a Hong Kong t on. An older guy came by and said you been to Hong Kong? Sure thing sir... how did you like Kowloon city .. umm Kowloon what? I was busted talking the talk without walking the walk. I had after that went to Hong Kong and knew where the bull and bear was but at the time I was showing off something I knew nothing about.

You cannot fool a Marine if they are talking the talk and walking the walk. I haven't met a phony, I don't go around telling people I was in the Corps. I don't wear the tee shirts. The only reason I mentioned it to the young man, because his hair was high and tight. When I traveled across the country, they thought I was with the Red Cross. I had my winters on and a heavy over-coat, red scarf and brown gloves. My cover had a red braid and the EGA. I have the USMC flag flying over my garage. Why would they think I was in the Red Cross? I wear T's, sweatshirts, jackets, and caps that tell the public I am one of the finest. I earned my EGA just like all my fellow leathernecks. I am proud of my service, and appreciate anyone who wears t's or the like with USMC on it. Tells me they respect us and honor our service. I also wear my favorite teams logo. I consider anyone who displays the EGA on their clothing as cheerleaders/fans for all of us. Not exactly how I wanted to say it, but you get the gist of the meaning. Mellow a little and enjoy the support. Semper Fi!
