I've been in the DEP since June 2nd and I'm supposed to ship to bootcamp October 14 which is 27 days away. Why have I not been given a MOS?

In the process of filling out all the paper work I was asked to give them three MOS categories that I was interested in. This was two months ago and every chance I've gotten from then until now I have asked my recruiter what MOS am I getting. Every time I asked he has no answer. I don't think it's his fault but I think somebody is messing up because there are many other poolees at my RSS that aren't shipping until next year and they already have their MOS. I just don't want get something at the last minute and not have a clue or basic idea about the job I get.

Don't ship until you sign that contract that guarantees your MOS field.

When you get to MEPS, the SNCO there will go over everything with you, if you get that far and still don't have an MOS, and he tries to tell you you're still open contract, it may seem weak but tell him you will not swear in until you get a contract.

They'll twist and prod you, try to get you to go, but trust me, you definitely don't want to be "that guy" who "enlisted for infantry, but got bulk fuel specialist"

Did you happen to sign open contract?

Hmmm a lot of variables here. I went guaranteed. All the other recruits found out somewhere between week 8-10 what they were getting

That doesn't necessarily matter, I originally signed open contract but it was voided out at MEPS by the 0300 contract I signed later on in the DEP.

Yes, but my recruiter told me that I would pick an MOS after I swore in the first time. About a week later he asked for the three choices...

...so am I just stuck waiting since I have an open contract?

Tell him you waqnt to be an AMPHIBIOUS BLOOD SUCKING WAR MACHINE and then sign the guaranteed Infantry contract. I'm teasing by the way I just saw an opportunity for some humor. Achped would know better than I now.

And then.....no don't do it I'll get in trouble. I think you need to just to be more assertive and ask more questions. You don't owe anyone anything yet and if they aren't willing to work for you and with you till you do swear in then tell them you will walk.

My recruiter was excellent and I frequently spent time at the RS with the other 2 recruiters as well. I learned and asked as much as possible before leaving.

...well at my RSS we have a poolee guide and poolee squad leaders...well I'm the poolee guide and I'm at the station on a regular basis besides PT every Monday and Wednesday. That's why I don't think any of this is to blame on my recruiter or has anything to do with me not asking enough questions. I honestly think they might try to pull some last minute crap and screw me over. However, if they do, I'll just give them hell at the MEPS because I'm set on becoming a Marine...

...and I'm not going to let them make the last three months a waste of time.

Well good tell them what you want(nicely of course) and see what they do, and Poolees do not guide you in anyway. This is between you and your recruiters. Some of those other kids may not have their heads on straight.

No, I meant I'm the guide of our poolee squad as in "platoon guide" and I'm always at the station.
