Picatinny Marine reservists deployed to Iraq
Reserve Marines from Picatinny departed from the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif. for the Al Anbar Province in Iraq Sept. 5, Picatinny Arsenal announced Monday.
Sailors and Marines from Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, headquartered in Dover, will be assigned to the Regimental Combat Team 5 area of operations. The company’s expected tour in Iraq will be about seven months, the base said.
The reinforced battalion from 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, is comprised of reserve and active-duty Marines and sailors from companies and detachments in 11 states, including units from 1st and 3rd Battalions, 25th Marine Regiment.
This mobilization is Golf Company’s third since 2002 and their second tour in Iraq. Upon arrival, they will be assigned to the First Marine Expeditionary Force.
The 25th Marine Regiment is comprised mainly of reserve Marines and sailors, although active-duty personnel are assigned to each unit to oversee training, administration and site support.
