Mothers of two midstate Medal of Honor recipients die
Funerals will be held this week for the mothers of two midstate Medal of Honor recipients.

Services for Ruth Amanda Howard Davis, 85, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with burial following in Linwood Cemetery.

Her son, Sgt. Rodney Davis, is Macon's only Medal of Honor recipient. He was killed in 1967 while serving in Vietnam when he threw himself on a grenade to save fellow platoon members.

Ruth Leona Livingston, 89, died Monday in Lumber City. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today in Lumber City Baptist Church.

Her son, Maj. Gen. James Livingston, was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1970 for his service during the Vietnam War, according to www.medalofhonor.com. Livingston, then a captain, was wounded three times in the course of a fire fight, but continued to lead his company. His fellow Marines had to drag him to safety when he tried to stay behind to cover the withdrawal of one of the companies.
