Storm pushes up Marines' Parris Island graduation

Associated Press - September 3, 2008 11:15 AM ET

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Military installations across the Carolinas are making preparations for tropical weather approaching the Southeast.

In South Carolina, the Marines at Parris Island are moving their weekly recruit graduation up a day because of Tropical Storm Hanna. Several thousand family members are expected to attend the graduation of some 750 Marines Thursday instead of Friday.

The spokesman says a Marine installation in Georgia is ready to take in the remaining 7,000 recruits who are in various stages of training at the installation if necessary.

In North Carolina, about 80 F-15E Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro and about 10 C-130 transport planes at Pope Air Force Base near Fort Bragg are being sent to Ohio to ride out the storm.
