EUREKA, Mo. (KMOV) -- A Iraq war veteran injured during combat visited the St. Louis area on Sunday to help raise money for other Marines wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During a charity golf tournament, Cpl. Joshua Bleill recalled nearly being killed by an enemy bomb in Fallujah, Iraq, and waking up in a military hospital to find both of his legs had been amputated above the knee.
Karen Guenther, the founder of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, said her group pays for what the U.S. government does not, including specially equipped transportation, housing and other large expenses.
Tournament organizer Allen Alred said the event was expected to raise up to $200,000, bringing the total raised in St. Louis over the past four year to a half-million dollars.
Bleill still faces years of recovery, but said he wants to learn to run and water ski.
