Unified Hope exercise begins in Bangladesh

About 25 Okinawa-based Marines and sailors arrived in Bangladesh this week for Exercise Unified Hope.
The troops from 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group will work with Bangladeshi forces to provide free medical and dental care at three sites in "impoverished parts of the country," according to a Marine Corps news release.
During the first two days, the team provided care to more than 1,740 people, the release said.
"It’s great we have the opportunity to use our knowledge as dentists and doctors to help these people," Navy Lt. Rob Kiser was quoted as saying in the release. "It is a phenomenal experience that we can provide this level of care to so many who have probably never seen a doctor before."
Exercise Unified Hope is scheduled to care for more than 8,000 people and is expected to end Aug. 28. About 30 Marines from Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd MLG, were in Bangladesh Aug. 10-14 for a bilateral command-post exercise called Durjoge Durnibar.
Durjoge Durnibar, which means "fearless in any disaster," focused on disaster relief operations in an earthquake scenario, the release said.
