I am sending a link to a newspaper article about an escort service in Dallas that dresses up 15 yr.old boys in dress blues and rents them out to the fathers of mexican girls for their birthday parties.I remember in boot camp I was told that wearing a Marine Corps uniform had to earned. If wearing the uniform wasn't bad enough they have spiked hair and earings and tennis shoes.Go to www. youtube.com and do a search for sweet sensations and you can see videos.I have emailed headquarters Marine Corps, and this web page, and have talked to a Sgt.Melvin Lopez at the Dallas recruiters office and I havn't gotten a reply of any kind from anyone.Am I the only one in this country that thinks this **** is wrong?I would really like to hear from someone.I think if you see someone in a Marine uniform you should know for sure that they are a Marine and not just any *******!! http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/DN-cadetes_03met.ART.State.Edition2.4d63843.html jwh44@verizon.net

Isn't it against the law to wear military uniforms unless you are in the military or have been in the military? I seem to recollect that a couple of years ago a man was arrested and charged with...

I think it is against the law to "impersonate" a military person, but it's not a crime to be an idiot. I would hope somebody in the kid’s chain of command would know better, but you can’t throw them...

I think it is against the law to "impersonate" a military person, but it's not a crime to be an idiot. I would hope somebody in the kid’s chain of command would know better, but you can’t throw them in jail for it. Heck, they bought them from a military surplus store that purchased them from some base auction, or some moron that traded them in for some beef jerky.

I wonder what the reaction would be if some hot chic, say Paris Hilton,,,, I wonder if Paris Hilton was laying there wearing Dress Blues with her pants down to her cankles and the coat open. What would you say then?

I think it's really about the intent. A poser, that's a different story and I have no problem seeing the Stolen Valor Act thrown at them.

In a perfect world the only ones that should wear them are the few and the proud who earned the right.

I ever tell you guys about the girl in Greece that I had wearing my Dress Blues, she was from Sweden..... mmmmm ;)

Yeah, what he said. Don't like it either, but I agree with The Wook.

Couple months ago downtown Portland saw a skinny hipster kid standing on a corner wearing the Alpha with CPL chevrons and baggy shorts. He shoved some kind of greenpeace flyer towards me and i just eyeballed him and said 'Semper Fi'...Corporal? He gave me a sideways sheepish grin and said, yeah whatever. I shook my head cracked my knuckles and kept walking.http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif

I went to Lake Highlands my 10th grade year. Like i said earlier all you can really do is get upset. If they were burning dress blues then i might be inclined to take a more serious approach to the situation.

Think of it this way we have the most stylish uniform Period. Fashion wise today you see all types of people wearing Marine uniforms from rappers to preps. Think about it thats free advertisment. I dont see anyone wearing other branches.

Any comments Gents...............

...I have emailed headquarters Marine Corps, and this web page, and have talked to a Sgt.Melvin Lopez...

Was he stationed at HQMC? I remember a Sgt. Melvin Lopez from there whom I think worked in the Pentagon. I know they were flagging Sergeants for recruiting duty around that time, so I guess it's possible he was flagged for it, unless he volunteered on his own. Anyway, just curious if this is the same buy a buddy and I would shoot the sh*t with from the A-ring at the 'gon.

This is how we took care of things back in the day.

The year was 1967 and a couple of Drill Instructors & myself went to a bar on Midway Ave. in San Diego called the B-Z-B. We entered and a couple of long haired guys at the bar started their crap about the Nam. One of our guys had an old Barber Kit in his trunk and he retrieved the hand clippers. We removed one of th guys from the bar, held him on the floor and sheared off his hair with the hand clippers. The other guy called the police and when they arrived and heard what happened they laughed pretty hard and informed the long hairs that they should keep their mouths shut. Happy ending to story and very true. I wouldn't try this today as everyone knows that the law protects scum bags like this.

I f*cking hate the PC nature of todays society. So many ungrateful, unpatriotic, and selfish people claiming to be Americans. One day, God forbid, some jackass with an inflated sense of self-worth will come along, win the hearts of the electoral college, become president and send this country to hell in a hand basket. Once an enemy of my country chose to take advantage of that, then and only then will those living here have some comprehension of the necessity of our dedication and devotion to our way of life. Maybe some don't agree with my thought process, but that's the opinion of this Marine.

There was also a time when the Corps pulled Dungaree Liberty.

I remember when the CG at Camp Pendleton put Oceanside off limits and the married personnel who lived in Oceanside could only stop at grocery stores and then go directly home.

This didn't last very long before the city fathers were standing tall in front of the CG begging him to lift the restrictions. Probably couldn't do that today. But it cured all the high prices and gangs causing trouble with Marines.

Honestly, Mike, this is my 2 cents; if you earned the right to wear the uniform, and you can still fit into it, and meet the regulations of the uniform, then you should do what you want. <br />

Mike, like the others have said, and I will repeat, you may, under regulations, wear your uniform as long as you wear it correctly.

As far as the kids wearing blues, or parts of blues, an earlier poster was basically correct, as long as they are not "impersonating" a military member, they can get away with it. A US Supreme court decision back in 1972 said they can wear parts of a uniform for basically any reason as long as they are not claiming to be in the military.

Sucks, but that's the way it is.

1st of all, you're not stupid, quit saying that.

you do have to earn the right to wear the uniform...with meaning.

This is a free country. You can pretty much do as you please as long as you're not infringing on the freedom of others.

Yeah you can do to the surplus store or ebay and buy some military uniforms and wear it, but will it mean anything?

But the day you graduate from boot camp or OCS or whatever you plan on doing, and you put on that uniform, and your instructor calls you "Marine", it will truly mean something.

Thats the meaning of "earning the right to wear the uniform"

I hope I made sense.

Question, I was told by my recruiter not to mount my army ribbons for the ball. I am just wondering if its his opinion that I will just get ridiculed for them or if its just better not to include them with the Corps ribbons, and its just 2 which aren't medals so they would go on the right with my Marine ones, NUC, SSD, and thats it

Alpha1Devildog
09-17-08, 05:52 PM
I think we've established that if your uniform fits, you're squared away, it's clean, you have a nice high and tight, shoes polished, brass shined, wearing the uniform you've earned the right to wear is your right.

I don't understand the recruiters thinking however. If you've earned military ribbons in another service, I can't figure why it would be wrong to mix those with the ones earned as a Marine. It's not like you have a chest full like Audy Murphy or Chesty Puller. For example: If you were awarded the Silver Star in the Army, then you joined the Marines, I thought there was protocol to display that/those ribbons on your current uniform, in the proper sequence of course, from the highest to the lowest.

Someone with a lot more time in than me would have to answer that. I thought I saw a Capt and a Lt as members here. . .

I recall seeing many veterans wearing their uniforms, ribbons and such for parades, balls, dances, I don't know why you should be any different.

But this is based on the fact that you're talking to a grunt that spent less than four years in the Corps, and was quite possibly the biggest _ _ _ _ bird the United States Marines ever encountered. . . :bunny:

Get cleaned up, wear the uniform with pride, and don't do anything in it to disrespect it. The Frug's Ok, but don't be doing the worm or the alligator in it. . .

There is a current edition of Lowrider Magazine (Military Edition) that features, as would be expected, quite a few modified cars and bikes designed, built and owned by military personnel or civililians that were in the military. What caught my attention though was that one of the foxy models was wearing a Lance Corporal decorated Marine blouse opened to the naval.
I don't know what I looked at first, the foxy, bountiful woman with a attractive and quite viewable bustline or the Marine Corps blouse that she was wearing.
As much as I personally would prefer Marine Corps attire to be worn only by Marine Corps personnel this model made a very good argument for wearing the blouse even though not a Marine.

Mikewebe:

The reason you can't wear army decorations (some of them) is because the Marine Corps doesn't recognize them.

Things like the Army Service Ribbon, Professional Development Ribbon, etc, because they have no USMC counterpart, are not allowed for wear on USMC uniforms.

Don't ask me why, but it's a Marine Corps thing LOL.

Any other army ribbons you earned/rate, you likely can wear. Let me know if you have any questions on those.

The only people that actually wear the gay pride ribbon are fresh privates that don't have any other ribbons to wear, I remember hating having to wear a dress uniform because of that ribbon.

Thanks for reminding me about that ribbon and giving me a good laugh!

At a memorial dedication we had a army major in my home town wearing the silver star and and the purple heart among other ribbons. Short story, he had never been to Viet Nam and didn't rate any of the ribbons. Well he was tried and convicted. That is a federal law.

Serves the idiot right, if you didn't earn ribbons or medals you have no right to wear them. To me it shows disrepect to the ones who have earned the right the wear them, who has earned through blood, sweat and tears. They ought to hang the jackass and all those like him.

No John you are not, Iwas told the same thing in Boot Camp, To wear the Marine Uniform is earn. My DI's told us that if we saw anyone wearing the uniform and they are not a Marine to beat the hell out of them for wearing the uniform. Maybe I'm old school Marine Corps but that company in Dallas needs to have a visit from Marines to let them know how we feel about it, Marine Corps style.

At my graduation there was this kid that was wearing a jacket with a bunch of patches all over it. On the arms he has Marine Corps chevrons that were the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. My grandpa was a Gunny and had passed away a couple months prior so I was already wishing he could be there and started to get a little ****ed. I walked up to the kid and first asked if he had any relation or friends that were in the Marine Corps. I figured even though it was stupid to be wearing them I didn't want act like an ass and find out his dad served or something like that. He didn't even know what they stood for. I was like "You have no F******* idea what you're wearing ass hole. That is earned. I suggest you take off your coat, turn it inside out, and take those the f*** off when you get home." He actually took his coat off and turned it inside out.
