Historic Interviews

The SouthWest Washington Veterans Memorial Museum (SWWVMM) is looking for anyone that was stationed at the Vancouver Barracks, in Vancouver, Washington, during WWII. It seems almost all of the history of that time is nowhere to be found. Whether it was not kept, or just was thrown out, no one knows.

We would like to either interview them, or have them make an oral/video tape of their remembrances, or a written journal. They do not have to have been in the military, and they do not have to have been a veteran. For example, we have an 85 year old lady that worked in the laundry, that is writing down and providing us with pictures of the Barracks during that time period.

This is part of a bigger project of recapturing the history of our veterans to be put on display in the Museum and available to any and all people that want it. We have a 45' semi-trailer that we are going to modify so we can visit different schools and such with different displays this will be part of.

One of our other projects coming up in the series, is the recording of history of our Vietnam Vets and recording the history from vets from the Vietnam side. We have a large population of Vietnamese that have settled in this area and we do mutual projects together with them. We were invited to and thourally enjoyed their ceremony remembering the fall of VietNam 28 years ago on April 30, 1975. We in turn are having a mutual ceremony on Vietnam Armed Forces Day coming up next month on June 19, 2003. We are lucky to have one of the three star Generals from Vietnam that is active in their association.

Thanks for any help in advertising the need for the history records
