Marines rescue stranded kayakers
By the Carolina Morning News
Two kayakers got a little more adventure than they bargained for Tuesday.
The men were lifted to safety by the Marine Corps' Angel One rescue helicopter from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort after they were stranded in a marsh after the tide went out Tuesday afternoon.
Bluffton firefighters were called to the Okatie River between Cherry Point and Oldfield at about 1:30 p.m. after two kayakers were reported stranded.
They were about 200 yards from shore, unreachable by foot or boat and Angel One was called out to help, said Bluffton Fire District Public Information Officer Donn Hicks.
The Marines rescued the men - and even their kayaks.
No one was injured.
