I have been browsing around the Poolee Hall the last couple of days and one thing I have noticed is a large number of poolees seeking to get into the Intel MOS. For such a small MOS its interesting that we seem to have a growing presence here. It would be great to hear from you guys why you have chosen this field and how the process is going for you. I know the road has been a little rocky with me, with issues anywhere with the Delta Delta form to ship dates. I have personally had a hard time tracking down people already in the intel field to give a sorta "day in the life" description of what they do. So how about it?

Thanks,

what do you all want to know?

what do you all want to know?

When deployed how close/much action are you going to see compared to sitting on base? Is it mostly sitting in the rear with the gear doing paperwork or do you get the chance to get out and collect intel firsthand?

What do you do in a typical day while in garrison?

What does an Intel specialist do? I've seen that MOS dragged around here and there but its never clear exactly what their job is.

I've heard that they started attaching Intel Marines to rifle companys. How would someone come about getting this assignment?

I think those are a few of the questions I have been wondering about for a while. Anyone who could shed light on them would be a big help!

It depends what the last two numbers of your MOS will be.

CounterIntel Marines get attached to rifle companies. They are "HET". Human Explotation Team. They are right in the ****. They go on raids, sit with sheiks, sit across the table from a terrorist and can't do **** about it. All the fun stuff (to me at least)

And then you have the Intel Marines at Battalion level. They sit on the FOB in the batcave. Come back from a 7 month deployment with pasty white skin :D.

Shouldn't have to say this. But don't worry about 0211s. It will be a good while before you can even consider making that move, and pick a MOS you like first. Then consider making the lat move to 0211.

But what the Cpl said is head on. Most intel Marines will not see a whole lot of action, if any at all. Much work to be done in the base and usually inside a cement box.

That seems to line up pretty well with what I thought. Thanks for the info, you would be suprised how hard it is to come by a simple answer like those. At least I know what I want to work forward over the next five years. Its just like everything else, you gotta put your time in before you get to wicked stuff like the Counter Intel Marines.

I was originally looking to get into Intel, but I am not anymore. Here (http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35103&highlight=intelligence+specialist)is a link to a post a long time ago that I found to be great. It is what the intel specialist(0231) does.

You don't have to be intel to go counter intel. Most of the counter intel Marines lat move from non intel MOSs. Just making sure you knew that.

Very true. It is a lat move only MOS so anyone re-enlisting is eligible. As long as they meet the requirements.

I WAS going through the whole process, but my family situation is going to prevent me from doing so. I shouldn't deploy too much with my son's condition. Ahh well. Looks like I'll go to SOI for a B-billet and back to the fleet. :D

The two Intelligence and Radio Bn's have the highest deployment rates of any units in the Corps along with the VMU units.

If you plan on being in the MOS...be ready to deploy multiple times.

As Brewer0311 stated you will part of a HET and out in various locations where ever the deployment happens to be. You will have a ton of reports to handle as well as individuals who you get your info from. In addition to that you have interrogations and all sorts of other things.

If you have an interest in lat moving talk to the OJT/Recruiting guys and they will help you out.

In addition to CI you have SIGINT and also the analysts.

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise to find a lot of 02XX Poolees on the internet. :D
I see we're shipping on the same date, good luck on your side of the country.
