Marines at Camp Lejeune are preparing for an antiterrorism exercise that will simulate terrorist attacks and require heightened security on the eastern North Carolina base.
The exercise is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
A base spokesman said the exercise will include a simulated terrorist attack with a chemical, biological, radioactive or nuclear agent.
Marines will experience increased identity checks and traffic delays in some areas during the exercise. Messages also may be broadcast over outdoor loudspeakers.
The exercise is conducted annually to assess the base's ability to respond to an attack.
