just thought i would give those of you fresh out of boot a heads up if your planning on going too MP school after MCT

the school is currently backed up by 2 months,i'm here now and MP 14 just picked up this week,i won't be picking up until MP 17-18 sometime in late august early sept (so there saying) you'll be stuck in MATT platoon, working parties galore.it sucks.hard.

also K-9 handler and SGT. quotas have been met for the rest of the year.

ALSO....

MP school starting in october, will be increased too 13 weeks instead of 9,rumor is too earn your cert in humvee driving, but still not completly sure on that one.

any info anyone else has post it up,any questions about the base or MCT i can answer.FT leonardwood is extremely boring if you don't know what too doo/where too go.

Yeah Marine, Working parties while waiting on your class to pick up is nothing new, You actually never really escape them (Things got to get done you know!). Are you going to be a Field MP or more like the Base Police? Or don't you know that until you get your orders to FMF?

Yep, you never escape those working parties as a casual, especial when a non-rate. Just be glad you don't have mess duty instead.

working parties are a fact of marine life, just some of them have been quite..."memorable" lol

i hope too get field MP,word is they choose for you and it all depends on the unit your assigned too (whether it is a field or garrison unit) apparently there trying too phase out garrison MP's all together within the next 3 years and replace them with civilians...so it will be just field Mp's.

i don't mind either way,if i go field,i'll try for HRT or K-9 handler

if i go garrison i'll try for SRT.i'll do whatever the corps needs me too do.

I hope you get field MP, Standing at the front gate looking at DOD stickers all day, Alway's looked to me like the most BORING job in the world.:) My cousin was joined the Airforce to be an MP:) But he couldn't make it through their Boot Camp....poor guy:(

A couple of my friends just graduated from various schools, Admin/Landing Support Specialist and 2800/5900 School and everyone has been backed up around 2-3 months. I saw alot of guys go home on recruiters assistance while I was in my waiting platoon. Something to look forward to if you are just out of boot/mct going to your MOS school if they allow it of course.

Wow, Ft Lost in the Woods. That's where I got my first tattoo.

Are the MPs still having to dress in Service Bravos/Charlies? When I was there in 2002, they weren't allowed to get libo (or at least leave base).

Doesn't shock me at all. I tried to get MP when I joined and it was already filled up, and even when I was at boot, everyone I asked seemed to have MP for their MOS. It goes hand in hand with this news.

Wow, things have changed since I was in. The most PT we did was at MP school and that was Army PT, of course I was a winger but I'm sure the field MP's ran their arses off. We had vehicles didn't need to run to far. The organized PT we did mostly consisted of lots of sprints. Not to diminish the wing, we still had to pass our PFT's and adhere to weight standards.

To stick with the topic. I was DEP'd for 6 months due to no openings and that was over 30 yrs ago and promotions to Cpl were frozen for more than a year.

MPs assigned to fleet units are primarily convoy escorts and POW handlers. K-9s, of course, do explosive detection work and other similar work. MPs in a combat zone also do law enforcement, but that becomes a secondary job. In garrison, assigned to a Base Provost Marshal's Office, law enforcement is the primary job.

Fleet MP units usually provide a platoon for MEU floats.

In Iraq and the 'Stan, MPs are also training civilian and military police units.

It will all depend on what unit you are assigned to as to where and how often you deploy, just like any other Marine combatant unit. I would suspect you will likely see at least two deployments if the war keeps on keeping on.

Yeah, I will second the amount that Fort Leonard Wood sucks.

Im an engineer here in EEIC.

Good news for any poolies with engineer contracts, you probably wont stay in MATT plattoon to long. Classes pick up pretty regularly

Fubar5812

You future MP's do me a favor, make sure you have an open or completed NACLC background investigation for secret clearance eligibility. It seems half of the MEPS in the Marine Corps missed the MARADMIN back in 2003 that required that all Marines needed a NACLC background investigation, and especially those with MOS's that require it as a condition to qualify to hold the MOS. MOS 58XX requires it, and half of the young, 58XX Marines that check in with me don't have it.

Well I am shipping to MEPS tomorrow, I will ask my recruiter about the check beforehand and see what he says. But I am not 100% positive if MP is open, but it should be seeing its almost the end of the Fiscal Year and will be past it when I get out of boot. Hopefully I get shipped here soon, dont wanna be there in the dead times, when the Rct Training companies are alot smaller and DI's a lot more personal :-P

Hey Master Guns, I was under the impression that everyone in the MP for all branches went to Lacklund AFB

Things don't open at the end of the fiscal year, they open at the beginning of the year. That means for people that ship after October 1 everything should be open.

Regardless, if the school is backed up and/or there is a problem there, things can still be closed until things get back to normal.

its alot better now,MATT platoon went from 239 marines (when i got here) down too 63.they increased the MP class size to 75 and added 8 new instructors,so the wait is now only a few weeks until you pick up.

bad news- Matt platoon and motor-t's student support are combining and there moving those marines awaiting picking up in there class's into SQUADBAYS! no more barracks rooms,so if you get here after october, and this goes through....your screwed until you pick up.

motor-t's student support is always huge,if you fail CBRN (NBC guys) EEIC (engineer equipment operators) or MP school you get dropped too motor-t and drive "big green trucks" as my instructor puts it.I don't think its possible too fail motor-T school.

Let me ask you, something Devil Dog,,, I hope your school is going great by the way,,,, but I'm wondering, how many times do you have to be told to capitalize the M in Marine?

If you're supposed to be some Marine MP, then you should learn a thing or two about attention to detail.

Thank you, Semper Fi.

Carry on.

I saw a Sgt police calling leaves a few weeks back. I quickly ran for cover, because if a Sgt is carrying a bag police calling leaves with his troops, I knew no matter what job I was doing wasn't going to escape the "Hey devil dog...get over here"

I never heard about the MP "MAT platoon", and Motor-T "Student support" combining into squad bays. I don't see why they would do that. There is plenty of room for students in the Barracks. Im gonna guess thats one of many "rumors" that get spread around. However. In FT Leanord Wood MC DET anything that doesn't make sence is very possable. ha.

As for the Delay in picking up now. I was talking to a student in MAT, and she said she got here last wednesday, and was alreaday picking up the Wednesday after the 96. Thats a huge differance from the guys who got here in August and had to wait that 3 months just to pick up.

I'm Motor-t and had to wait in Student Support for a month. I don't think its that bad here anymore either. After 4 months in this god forsaken place, I finally get to leave the 10th. I love driving the LVS, but dam I hate being here an extra month.

For all you Motor-t, MP, and engineer poolies.... Good luck. There isn't jack **** to do in Missouri, except drink or get a tat. Those just happen to probly be the biggest hits here. Your libo is bases on your performance as a platoon, and up to your team leaders discretion. Get used to being on base in cammies for a while.

OH yea.. Youll get usued to running. The shortest I've ever ran here was 3 miles, thats usually for PFT's ,wich I have done 5 since Ive been here. Its either PFT, because we need to get training started early to get ahead for this 96, or a detachment run.

Like someone mentioned earlier. Its usually 4 to 6 miles.Occasianlly 8 Sometimes you run more. Every Mon, Wed, Fri. Wednesday we run with our GySgt who was Recon. We are scedualed for a 10 mile run. Not looking forward to that at all.

Also get used to the words "carwash hill", and the "water tower.

Only differance between MP PT, and us, is we are lucky enough we don't have to run carwash hill with flacks...... That looks like it sucks.

Everyplace boils down to what you make it. It isn't any worse there then it is anywhere else. Ft. Lostinthe Woods may not be located in the center of the entertainment capitol of the world, but it isn't exactly the worst place either. And when you're in a student status, you'll always be somewhat limited in what you can or cannot do.

As for the combining the platoons, makes sense to me. If they are separate platoons there has to be more permanent personnel in place to take care of the knuckleheads.

So apperently I was wrong. MP, and Motor-T student support where supposedly put together. I guess they needed to make another Company for Motor-t, and are using the barracks that Motor-t was using.

When I was in my school I didn't care what there was to do. I focused on my training and kept myself occupied through reading, exercise, and talking to family. When you deploy thats about all you will be able to do anyway.

Fubar5812
09-06-08, 02:55 PM
well then your a better Marine than I,because i focus on my training and excerise during the week, but when libo time comes I want to relax and have fun, monday comes too quickly so i try too enjoy myself as much as possible on the weekends so when the next week comes i'm refreshed and ready for what the week will bring, whether it be OC qual, pistol qual, very long PT runs or long boring classes/exams.

so MP school is no longer backed up,MATT platoon has shrunk too just 45 people,MP 17 just picked up (2 weeks after us) so the wait isn't long at all now.any MP poolees feel free too PM me with any questions,i'll try to anwser them as best i can.
