Well how do I start, I enlisted in the marines about a couple months ago

and it was my intention to get into the intelligence field. I signed my

contract and whatnot and I believe I was under DD as for my MOS but I

had no Ideal there was a difference in sig Intel 2600 and regular Intel

0200. I chose 2600 but what I really wanted was 0200. My recruiter tells

me There are no open available spots for that MOS which disappointed me.

So I figure id just wait till I'm 21 and make a lateral move to Intel when i'm

a corporal or sergeant. But my goal upon entering the corps was to be a

officer in which there were many venues in becoming one.

I realized that Id have to go for MECEP. But i don't know if that would

conflict with my lateral move to 0200 or at the least make it difficult. And

on top of all the questions and confusion my recruiter calls me TODAY! and

tells me that a position just opened up for Intel and the only problem would

be that Id have to leave for boot camp on the 7th, next monday! I'm

conflicted and torn apart by this news and I'm not sure what I should do

take the 7th or wait and see if theres a chance to get Intel later while in

MECEP.

Oh on top of it all he also says theres a 5k signing bonus for the Intel and

a regular bonus of 10000 for Sig Intel and my parents already set up a

cruise for the 8th of august which will have been 350 bucks waisted on a

ticket...Jeez im all messed up.... can anyone give me a little insight on

what road I should take?

You need to fill out your new profile some...................I KNOW you've been here before under another name. There couldn't possibly be 2 of you come in here and your parents are going to be on a cruise when you're scheduled to go, blah, blah, blah.

JUST MAKE A FREAKIN DECISION!!!!!

If you think your physically ready..I would go asap. Get the MOS you want and get it over and done with. The sooner you do it..the sooner you have the opportunity to become a United States Marine.

Here's the problem with that statement. With the Marine Corps comes a lot of circumstances, hardships, and on occassion even some fun. However, like I have said a million times and will obviously continue to say it is that this job will be hell if you do it for 4 years (cause you aren't getting out of this contract man) if you don't do EXACTLY what you want to do. Therefore, I would wait it out, make a decision on what you want to do with life, because once you hit the fleet and especially once you start to actually do this job you will find that having the time to plan out and make decisions will be next to none. Most of the **** will be done on the fly and you abilities will be crucial to your understanding of the job and your experience doing it.

Take your time and decide what YOU want. Don't let anyone here make the decision for you...so stop wasting your time on polls. You need to start now making decisions on your own. Its your life. Don't let money sway you because you'll have it spent in a Jacksonville titty club or auto sales before you can collect your first interest payment. Don't let time make your decision, because no matter what you do, it still keeps moving. Decide on your own and in time the decision will come.

Also don't plan too far in advance. MECEP is hard to get into. Promotions aren't a ****ing cake walk. One thing I've learned about the Marine Corps is that Lance Corporals run this show on the most basic of levels. Don't plan your life too fast. If you want something be prepared for it, but have a contingency plan and be prepared to "pull out" or change your mind if it isn't what you want or its out of the question.

Exactly. It's up to you what you do and it's not the Marines' job on here to figure out your life for you. You have to make the decision.

but what I really wanted was 0200.

You said it yourself, you really want 0200. Go for it.

I had a dilemma similar to this & the best advice I received was "Your MOS is the ONLY thing you have control to pick when you join the Corps, choose wisely…”

Write out your options, along with the good & bad…See which weigh each other out & roll with it. You’ll make the right decision if you trust your judgment! Good luck!
