MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. -- Marines serving in Iraq will get some treats thanks to loved ones here at home.

Kelly Vernon's son is part of Echo Company based out of Fort Pendleton.

She collected items at the Hales Corners Fire Department to send to the 210 troops in the company.

People donated snack bars, hard candy, dried fruits and nuts along with socks and deodorant.

A local grocery store also collected several boxes of items to send overseas.

“We want to be a part of the community, anything we can do to help our troops, cause, hey, they're supporting us everyday and ensuring our freedom,” Hales Corners Sentry owner Clay Moore said.

Vernon said it feels good to help in any way possible

“They need this stuff hugely, as a moral boost that people at home care about them and haven't forgotten. You know, this has been going on for a while and support has fallen off a little bit,” Vernon said.

Anyone who would like to donate can send monetary donations to the Echo Company Project, P.O. Box 31, Greendale, WI, 53129.

The money collected will go toward the cost of *shipping* the packages.
