I wonder if there is anyone around that may have been in 1st Bn during that time frame. I was a Cpl for the 1st year then promoted to Sgt the 2nd. The drill field was good for my career. Toward the end of my Nam tour in '68 I made Staff Sergeant and Gunny in '70.
I have found several of my recruits and hope to find more.

Gunny:
I was in PLT 356 from Feb through April of 1966. S/Sgt Roper was our
DI and one heck of a Marine also. Like most, I'll always rememebr BC
and all that I learned there. It's still amazing what 'The Corps' does with
its recruits, budget and limited space to transform 'Joe' into a machine
that can survive most anything thrown at them from any enemy.

Thank you for your DI time......>SEMPER FI......Chuck

Attended D.I. School in June 1966. Went to 2nd Bn. "E" Co. after school. Was in 1st Bn when 2nd Bn. closed to remove Quonset Huts and build barracks. While in 1st Bn. Capt. Charlie Krulak was my Series Officer.

I started boot camp in Jul '66, 1RTBN, Plt 1075 (Honor Plt), then came back in 69'-70' to ServCo, H&S Bn and worked in the Depot Armory. I might have had your "smokey campaign hat" dry cleaned while I was there. GySgt Gogue was an instructor at DI school at the time and then took over the "Guam Platoon" until graduation.
