Some Radford professors and students are spending their summer vacation at the beach, but it’s not a vacation. The group is going to look for remains of WWII Marines on the Solomon Islands. That’s off the coast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean. The marines were ambushed by Japanese soldiers and only three of our troops survived. Experts believe most of the marines were buried in trenches and their remains were never recovered. The Radford University team leaves July 6.In addition to identifying the location of the marines’ remains, the trip is also part of training for students.
