LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - A permanent memorial to one of South Carolina's bravest was unveiled Wednesday.

Twenty-year-old Lance Corporal Joshua Torrence was killed in Iraq back in 2005. He had been serving with the Marines for two years.

"Joshua was a special boy. He was very special to us and when he joined the Marines, he knew this type of thing could happen, but he wanted to go anyway," said Torrence's father, Vernon.

Wednesday the portion of Platt Springs Road that runs in front of Lance Corporal Torrence's alma mater, White Knoll High School, was renamed in honor of the Marine.

"Let's not just remember Josh. Let's remember the rest of them who have sacrificed," said Vernon at the ceremony.
