Army meets Marines

For The Reporter

IRAQ -- While stationed in Shaiba, Iraq, U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. First Class Thomas J. Sabel of Lomira decided to take a side trip.

Sabel flew to Habbaniyah, Iraq, to see his son, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Aaron Habriga-Sabel.

Aaron is on his second tour-of-duty in Iraq. He is with the 2/24th Fox Company, Sniper Platoon from Chicago, Ill.

Back home, Aaron is a student at University of Wisconsin-Madison, working on a business degree.

Tom and Aaron spent five days together in Habbaniyah and Tom used some of the time to build shelving units for the soldiers.

Tom was sent to Iraq in November 2007 with the 2125th GSU from Decatur, Ga. He is serving a 13-month tour, working as fire chief and senior training advisor for the Shaiba Fire Department.

In Lomira, Tom works for Probuild, United Building Center. He is also first assistant chief for the Lomira Fire Department. In Iraq, the Army is using Tom's skills to train the Iraqi people on firefighting techniques.

Tom is the son of Leroy and Rosemary Sabel of Eden.
