I was woundering about fighting sports in the Marines. I love close Combat sports and i made it to states in wrestling, judo and kenpo. My question is the teams in the Marines are like a clubs or are they for pros only or do they have tryouts just woundering.
PS How would doing these sports work out with your time working 5 days a week. Thank you

I love close Combat sports and i made it to states in wrestlingDid you WIN state? how many times? The Corps has a tough Greco team stacked with talent and often qualify at least one member for International events including the Olympics but you gotta be a standout. Former "All Marine Greco" coach Jim Jackson was one of my coach's and also helped mentor Matt Lindland to a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics. You think your high school program was challenging? Earning the right to wear the USMC singlet is an ass kicker. if your resume is good enough the Marine coach will know who you are.

Do an internet search for Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). You will get all the hand to hand skills you could ever want.

Poolee just wait til you get to the fleet. It will depend alot on your MOS and more importantly your training schedule. Theres intramural teams, base teams, but it all depends on what your training cycle is. What I mean by MOS is as a grunt I knew alot of grunts that wanted to participate but were to busy getting ready for deployment and had were in the field, on ship , or some other activity and could not participate. I hope that answers some of your question.

I just calmed down,,,,,, Had to bite the head off a kitten to do it. There are lots of sports, providing you have time to put into it. I was Damm proud of myself when I made the tournament handball in Oki. And I did know a guy going Very far in Karate.
I do remember they stopped our Saturday Football games,,,, Too many broken bones.

Don't be one of the many idiots who can't read the rules and respect Marines, or you will get an ass chewing. Best to learn now when the punishment isn't so harsh than to learn later when a drill instructor is screaming at you for using a personal pronoun. Basically, if you think what you are about to say may be considered disrespectful in any way, shape or form, just forget about saying that and replace it with "Aye, aye, (insert rank here)." In fact, make it bold to imitate yelling as much as possible, because you and I will both be doing plenty of yelling in boot camp. I have seen Marines here blow up on stuff that I (a dumb poolee that doesn't know anything, just like you) didn't think was disrespectful, but apparently every Marine reading it did, so just be careful.

won states twice in wrestlingOk for lack of a better term The Marines occasionally have or had wrestling "smokers'. They take place on land and at sea, probably not in the air so much. It's like weekend collegiate and takedown tournaments with club wrestlers, except nobody is in great wrestling shape. If you happen to 'smoke' everybody, someone will take notice and it's possible you'll eventually be invited to Quantico for "All Marine" tryouts. The Corps has a greco and freestyle team but i don't believe Marines train or compete collegiate.
The coaching staff is pretty up to date nation wide on who the standouts are and where to find those who joined the Marines. I seriously doubt they are going to extract the average Joe grappler from his unit and fly him to Quantico just to watch him get manhandled by an elite athlete.
Winning state twice could make you a candidate for "All Marine" if it was a 4A or 5A high school and you had similar success in either freestyle or greco and are able to wade through the backyard wannabes at the smoker events.
I don't know much about Judo and the players except you get to grab clothes

Anyway........ Man these poolees are always getting torn up on here. trust me Poolees it will get worse before it gets better.....
I just sent a CPL PTAD for 180 days after he qualified for the MMA for the Marine Team. He asked to go and he was offered the opportunity. This is not the case for all Marines that ask to play a sport. If you are good enough and you qualify, then you can also ask. If accepted, you will detach from your unit and work on the sport you were accepted for. Operation Tempo gets in the way and is the reason a request is denied. It is possible and more likely if you are stationed in the Pendleton area. Many train at the 33 area fitness center for these types of sports.

Sparkie may i suggest a more profitable alternative form of livestock production: Rhea, Ostrich, or Emu. Now its more work than goats and chooks requiring stouter fencing and it pays off to learn some doctoring to stave off the vet bills and once they get some age on em you walk in their pen with a stick or they might try to kick ya out. Marketing around here is alot of leg work because people are used to seeing beef and lately bison as the only red meat for sale. But down there in Vegas casino's dig on the exotics
