Montana radio station KGEZ has announced plans to honor fallen soldiers from the United States this Memorial Day, by reading their names on the air.

"Too many Americans ignore the greatest sacrifice that … our Armed Forces have made for us," said station spokesman John Stokes. "Memorial Day is not just another holiday or excuse to have a barbeque. It should be a day dedicated to those who have given their life for our country."

He said station KGEZ on Memorial Day will air the name, age, hometown, rank and branch of service, "with details of their untimely deaths," of service members lost since Memorial Day 2007.

"They all dreamed of coming home," he said.

In 2007, the station took 36 hours of commercial-free airtime over the Memorial Day weekend to honor the 3,808 U.S. troops who were among the 3,697 coalition troops lost in Iraq and 575 in Iraq since the beginning of the fighting on March 19, 2003.

The station in Kalispell, Mont., said Memorial Day is filled with "sales" and is known as the launch of the summer season, or just as an escape from work for three days. But officials there are convinced there is a greater meaning.

This year, the soldiers who have been lost over the last year will be recognized.

"During Memorial Day Weekend, we at KGEZ 600 AM of Kalispell, Mont., will air over 10 hours of airtime to read the name, age, hometown, rank and branch of service, with details of their untimely deaths of every United States Armed Forces casualty lost since Memorial Day 2007," the station announced.

"The listeners of KGEZ have volunteered to participate in this humble tribute by reading the names of each of these fallen heroes. If you have not forgotten, and you still support these men and women, please take the time to remember them," the station said.

"They are not just another number."

The station also has posted a guest book online in order for listeners and website visitors to register to show their support.
