Four dogs and groups of volunteers joined the search for a missing Lancaster County man Friday, officials said.

It was the third day rescuers looked for an Iraq veteran believed to have fallen from his boat into the Susquehanna River earlier this week.

Christopher Dean Johnson, 24, of Manor Township, had not been found as of late Friday night, officials said.

The dogs will help searchers narrow down an area to look for the avid boater and fisherman, said Brian Morrin, York County public information Officer.

Johnson's boat, still running and holding his yellow Labrador retriever, was found Wednesday morning on the York County shoreline.

Several dozen volunteers, including a group of U.S. Marines, came out to help look for the missing man Friday, Morrin said. The Marines searched the shoreline and woods on foot, walking in areas where Johnson might have come out of the water.

The search area is a 5-mile swath north of the Safe Harbor Dam. Emergency responders from York and Lancaster counties, as well as squads from other areas in the state, have been scouring the area for days.

Johnson's family members expressed hope Thursday that he would be found alive. They could not be reached for comment Friday.

Johnson is a Marine who served a few months in Iraq before he was shot in the right arm in 2004. He spent one year at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after he was injured, family members said.

A biology class from Northeastern Senior High School was

kayaking when they found the boat still running along the shoreline amid some logs and trees, officials said.
