View Full Version : Your opinion?
So I got a question for y'all.
Right now, I have two main goals. To join the Marine's and to get an education (i.e. college).
My question would be, should I enlist now, and try to get into MECEP? Or should I just finish all of my education now, and join after college (in four years)?
Just looking for some opinions on this, thanks.
Respectfully,

yawn.....................do you know how to do a search?
Why yes I do. Perhaps you would suggest what I should search for then?

Yeah I would..................your own brain for one. Think about what it is YOU want to do. If I were your Mother, I would suggest you don't try both at the same time. There are a lot of things that would determine whether you get that degree in 4 years or 10 - you may not have time because of your MOS, you may have to quit for a while to go to Iraq (or some place else), credits may not transfer...................see what I'm saying? Concentrate on one thing at a time. Also, keep in mind that if you do further your education while you're in, the Corps will ALWAYS come first - no questions asked - you cannot tell your fellow Marines that you can't head out with them because you have a final the next day.
There aren't too many of us older ones that joined the Corps for an education. Ask some of these new kids on the block or talk to your Recruiter.
Ok, thank you for the response LCpl. And I'll search for my brain, thanks for the advice lol.
Any Poolies have an opinion on what I should do?

i think it comes down to money, if you can afford college now then go and it will help getting that commission while in the Marines, but you can also enlist now get the GI bill then reenlist if you wish

Hmmmm...I'm sure the poolees have plenty of advice for you from their extensive experience in the Marine Corps. And you might want to check the little attitude before somebody here checks it for you. You're in the Marines' house here...not your own.

I suggest Marines then MECEP to become an officer, that way you can get the best of both sided of the Marines, officer and enlisted.

MECEP is a VERY hard program to get into just to let you know. I chose to go enlisted before officer just so I could have both sides like futuremarine said and in my opinion, thats the way to go.

Initiative is a Leadership Trait valued in the Marine Corps.

Well man, here is my advice...I ****ed college up. Went to Boulder, all these pretty mountains and pretty girls who come from Cali...plus booze, weed, you name it, Boulder/college in general have it. Think you can avoid it? More power to you.
I have spent the last two years wasting my time and my parents' money because I wanted to do what the **** I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. Now, I am one of those stats. I am a college dropout. 3.1 HS GPA, 30 ACT...I'm no dummy either. It's VERY easy to get distracted.
So here I am, joining the Marines, doing what I have wanted to do since I was young. College will still be there when I get out, and hopefully I will have my priorities straight. I'm 20...waiting 4 years and graduating at 26 won't be a big deal. ****, what was I gonna do anyway, go smoke some more weed? It depends on who you are, but if you are anything like me (ie, like to party and like hot girls), you will find yourself a little distracted. If you are disciplined, may as well do college now. Better yet, join Navy ROTC, choose the Marine option, and get commissioned as an officer. Get your school paid for. Hope that helps.
