Marines set guidelines for running suit

The Marine Corps has issued guidelines on how and when Marines should wear the new running suit, which will be issued to Marines beginning in October.

Marines can wear the new running suit with their green physical training shorts and shirt, but it cannot be worn with the current Corps sweat suit, a recent Corps-wide message said.

On liberty and leave, Marines can wear the running suit jacket as long as it is zipped at least halfway up, the message said.

Marines can also wear the current Corps sweatshirt while in liberty or leave, but not with the running suit jacket, said Mary Boyt, of the Marine Corps Uniform Board.

Marine Corps Systems Command will release an upcoming message with more information on how the running suit will be fielded, Boyt said on Tuesday.

The running suit will be in addition to — not a replacement for — the current sweat suit, Boyt said.

The new running suit was first issued on Feb. 29 to Marines at the Wounded Warrior Regiment at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

It will be distributed next at recruiting commands and recruit depots and then to the rest of the Corps. Marines will not have to pay for the running suit themselves.

"The running suit is made of lightweight, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, water-resistant materials," according to a Corps news release from March.
"Features include underarm and back venting solutions, a fold-down collar, full-length zip-through jacket and reflectivity. The lining is anti-microbial, which prevents odor and bacteria."
