Hello POOLEES

Since I'm not a poolee, I hope asking here is ok. A while back I posted about trying to make weight. Since I'm starting WAY over weight, it's still going to take a while, but I have a question for the experienced.

I can't do a pullup. Not a single one. I know there are machines that're counter balance, but I was wondering if there were any other things I could do in addition to dropping weight. Pull-downs for example.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It seems people who cannot do a pull up tend to improve on their pull ups when they try out the negative pull ups. If it is a weight issue, losing weight would help you tremendously. There is a lot of topics that have to do with this issue. Try searching it.

You can do negative pullups, assisted pullups, lat pull down, and various others work outs. Try searching the forum and using google to find more answers.

I think negatives would be your best bet like Daniel said.

Jump up above the bar and slowly let your self down as slow as possible.

Lat pull down is also a great machine to use since it focus on the biceps, triceps, and the back muscles.

Another thing that could help is using the search function, because this is talked about almost every day ;)

The biggest thing that will help you is loosing that extra weight. While your loosing it, be doing pushups, negative pullups, dips, curls, more negatives, maybe some assisted pullups also. Anything that you can do to strengthen your upper body, primarily your biceps and your back will help you to do pullups. Once you get one, just do them constantly and soon you will be hitting 10, 15, 20. Good luck

Something my recruiter said to do is once you get to like 3 or 4, after doing as many as you can, drop down, do 10 pushups, and do as many more as you can. Do it 3 times, every other day.

Good luck.

Do a SEARCH and see what the other 523 kids have done that couldn't do pullups. Can't never could do nothing either - if you tell yourself you can't, you won't.

man i was the exact same as you a couple weeks ago...

overweight.... and couldnt do a single pullup...

I havent lost weight yet...but I did buy a pullup bar that hangs on the door frame and next time I went to the poolie functions, I was able to do 4 pullups...

I would say buy a pullup bar and just use it whenever you can... I barely used too. I used it like a couple days before the poolie function and I was suprised I was able to do 4...

Now I really want to improve on them and lose the weight also.

 I would suggest you look at profiles BEFORE you open your pie hole and say something stupid like this again.

It's not a "preference" either - you see a Woman in a pic, it's YES MA'AM - you call a man "SIR" and I don't think I look like one.

It's OK though, I assumed YOU were a female since you can't do a pullup!

I was like that back in Feb. I built a pull up bar in my back yard, and everyday I went outside I did as many as I could, and then tried for one more. Every now and then I put my booksack on. May not sound good, it doesn't sound good to me, but I can do 7 now no problem. But I'm really skinny, so I didn't have much weight to pull up. Just keep trying and working on it, you'll get there. What we always do to improve on our pull ups is we do as many as we can, then one of the poolees who are in good shape come up and grab our feet and assist us up. That works really good. My recruiter said to always try for one more. He said he saw people get up there and pump out 17 no problem, then they struggle to get 3 more. He said on a bad day you want to be able to do 20, so never stop at 20. Keep going until you can't do anymore. Also, I always did my in sets.
