ONSLOW COUNTY -- The Third Annual Wounded Warrior Run took place Saturday at Camp Lejeune.

Thousands of people walked, ran, and did whatever they could to raise money for those who have been hurt while fighting for our country.

Science teacher Carly Batzel wanted to teach her Camp Lejeune 7th graders a lesson and get them in shape.

She taught them about health and fitness while doing it for a good cause.

The Jacksonville teacher admits her plans were ambitious, but she never expected them to turn out the way they did.

"I'm so proud of them. They're amazing," said Batzel.

After months of practice and preparation, Batzel's Brewster Middle School students laced up their sneakers and ran for those who couldn't.

More than 4,000 people ran to raise money for injured Marines and their families.

Students said with their own parents fighting overseas, the site of the wounded warriors hit home.

Batzel's students raised more than $5,000.
