Our Poolies NEED to know this weapon, Gunny! I hope this information is sufficient!! The M1911A1 is the model number for the .45 cal. pistol that is still in service for almost 100 years!! As an...

Wish I got to use the .45, that damn 9mm pee-shooter i carried around for 4 years wasn't worth anything, mid as well throw the damn thing instead of shoot it. It was effective against Iraqis though, they hated it and would practically **** themselves if you drew it out. But than again they would do that for any pistol. The Corps needs to go back to .45 now!

Yeah...when they made that .45 cal. pistol, they were hard pressed to find improvments on it for its basic simplicity and functionality. I've seen those pistols fire underwater! They were good, solid and dependable firearms. Thats hard to beat in the firearms world...

If you hold the .45 at about waste level and firing on a 50 meter target look about midway to the target while firing you can actually see the round going down range.

When I went shopping, the 45s were all pretty beat up, so I went for a new Smith and Wesson 1911 stainless. Not authentic, but a fine shooter.

P.S. none of the younguns figured out the A1 yet? I ain't sayin nuthin.

OK,
1) Shorter trigger with a " knureled face "(sp). This was to keep the trigger finger from slipping
2) Wider front sight to let the shooter align sites in varying degrees of light
3) Checkerd backstrap providing better grip and arched spring housing filling the shooter hand or grip
4) Relief cuts around the trigger, in the frame allowing easier access to the trigger.
5) Longer grip - safety spur ( keep web of hand from being caught when fired)
6) Longer hammer spur ( see results on 5)

Origional m1911 did not have a grip saftey, went off too easy. too many foot holes.

The A1 issue refers to a safety need. Lets cut to the chase, the "A" indicates Modification, the "1" indicates one modification. The modification was...?

The "M" means the item is classified as "standard". In the case of this particular item, 1911 is the year the pistol was adopted by the Army. The "A" stands for Alteration and the "1" means it is the first alteration. The M1911A1 was the result of altering the M1911 after the lessons of WW1 were incorporated. The number that follows the M is a random number that may or may not have some significance. For instance, the M9 may use the 9 to indicate 9mm or it may just have been the next number in the queue and it's a coincidence that it happened to be 9. I simply don't know.

I'll let others delve into the M16, but I do know that the A1s were restamped with A2 after they were modified to three round bursts.

I've been torn between getting the Kimber Warrior or the SA Operator.
Leaning towards the Kimber, but my frugality says get the SA.

I'll probalbly wind up with a RRA.

I was thinking the same thing- but Kimber made the choice easy. The SIS is THE next gun for me.
