Alright heres another question, well first I would like to up date my IST
1.5 miles 10:30
crunches 100
Pull ups 4
Weight 220
Need to be at 211 now I've got about 6 days to get ready for boot what if I'm over weight will the Marines still ship me for boot or will I be delayed. If I do ship over weight by a couple pounds what would happen to me what would be different in boot?
Thank you for your time

Thank you for your time I don't think it would make of a difference seeing as you can pass the IST. They should ship you and you'll loose those extra pounds in boot and then some ;) best of luck. But they *may* require you to get a weight waiver if 220 is your max weight for your height and if that happens you will be delayed till your waiver is obtained.

With them saying your Max weight is 211, then I'm guessing that is the max you can be with having a weight waiver.
Just eat Tuna and run your ass off and sweat it off. After you weigh in at MEPS you can eat as much as you want. I had to loose some weight a couple days prior before bootcamp. It sucked but suck it up, If I can do it so can you.

Going to bootcamp only doing 4 pull-ups might mean some trouble. Im sure u'll pass the IST but what i noticed in bootcamp is in some cases, (including myself), your pull up's actually get weaker. I came into bootcamp doing around 14 and my final pft was 10 i believe. Just make sure you don't over fill your tray, because eating in bootcamp is probably the only pleasure you will feel for 3 months. And DO PULL UP'S DURING FREE TIME, instead of writing letters all the time. Your only gone for a short 3 months, you don't want to be one of the guys that fails on pull ups and gets dropped late in the game. Good luck bud
If your recruiter knows that you are going to be over your weight max before you ship to boot, then he/she needs to do two things. 1 - they need to do a weight waiver and get it through quickly for you to ship ontime. 2 - they need to tape you and check your body fat percentage. If you are over weight but under the BMI (Body Mass Index) max you should be fine.
Also, as was said earlier, work on your pull-ups. Do max sets and pyramid sets whenever you can. Your pull-ups will probably go down during boot, I know a lot of guys who had this happen to them. There was a recruit in my Boot Platoon who got dropped to PCP because he failed the Pull-up portion of the PFT, you don't want to be that guy.
Good Luck!

Just out of curiosity, why is it that your pull ups would go down during the basic training?

Because believe it or not, your not really doing pull-ups every day or every other day (usually crunches, moutain climbers, push ups etc). The only time i can really think you do pull-up's at boot camp is on the pfts, sometimes your senior DI might make you guys work out and line up on the pull-up bars, but its not often enough to really make a difference. So its up to you to keep your pull-ups good by working on them during free time instead of writing letters to your girlfriends back home!
Sonic is right, my pull ups were better in 1st phase than 3rd phase by far

Sonic,,,I seem to remember pull up bars everywhere on PI! But I've seen other people on here say you don't do alot of pull ups in boot camp...I seem to remember we did....
anyway...Warlord repeat after me "Diet Tray Recruit"......I would drop the weight....then you'll lose more there.

it was different for me though so dont think they always go down but good idea to count on it..i went from doing 3 on the IST to 15 for final PFT but every day in free time i was doing pullups with day pack on with dumbbells in the pack as well...and our senior would have us non stop every down time we had if there was pullup bar around we would be on it doing pyramaids during 2nd and 3rd phase

Is there PFT taper before recruits actually have PFT, to improve the final PFT score?

just make sure you can do 100 crunches in 2 minutes 20 pullups and you can run 3 miles in under 18 minutes...that should be your minimum goal to pass the PFT...well to pass with a 300 and have a "perfect scoring PFT"

I have a question about my weight as well. I weigh 183 the max weight i can be to ship is 190. My weight upon graduation needs to be 176 or less. Am I considered a Diet until I hit 176 or am I good to go since im under the Ship Max?
Hmm, good question. I think that you won't be a half-rats recruit because you're under the Ship-max. You will most assuredly be under when you leave Boot so I don't see an issue.
If you are worried then get yourself out and do some PT!! Six pounds is not a lot to have to lose if you have the time to devote to it. Focus eating protein and veggies, low carb intake, and drink lots of water, stay away from the fatty, sugary junk! (soda, chips, cookies, you know what I'm talking about)
If you have more than a month until you ship you will be fine. Talk to your recruiter and get them to put you on a program and work with you.
Good Luck!

You need to be under the retention maximum, not the ship maximum. That means nothing other than it allows you to get to boot camp. Everyone should be under the ship max.
And be warned, you may not be a diet only until you reach your retention weight. Our platoon's diet recruits stopped being diet recruits the day before graduation.

Thank You Sir. I have lost 9 pounds in May PTing and working my butt off, I ship on the 20080527 so time is a factor, but I will only work harder as my ship date becomes closer.

I don't know why everyone is saying your pull-ups will go down in Boot Camp. At SOI definetly.
They must have not been 3rdBn Kilo Recruits.
We did Pull-ups and crunches after lights out in my platoon. We ended up winning the PFT trophy so I guessed it works.
Do them after lights, and do crunches as well. Trust if you start early in the training cycle you will get up to 15 if you just eat salad, fruit, and a helluva lot of peanut butter.

I dont know about you, but if we were caught out of our racks at night, it wouldn't be a nice night, or next day.
