This old sailor's frustration level has gone through the roof, along with my blood pressure. The following disrespectful picture has been posted on
this forum (http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?plckForumPage=ForumCategories&category=PluckForum) for some time, and even after numerous requests from several of us (both Veterans and non Veterans) the moderator insists on leaving it there.

If it were a "private forum", it would be bad enough, but there would be nothing that could be done. The forum that this disrespectful picture has been left on, is a forum owned and operated by a local News Paper (a Gannett publication), and the picture is easily accessible through that publication's WEB page.

Several of the members have been banned from this forum for speaking up publicly about this picture, and I am taking a vacation from the forum before I blow up.

Memorial Day is coming up, and I for one am sick that children are seeing this picture by just viewing the forum. What a way for a News Paper to honor our past heroes on this Memorial Day.

I would love to see a few good Marines land on this forum, and finish the job that I admittedly could not accomplish.

God Bless, and thank Y'All for your service.

Dont we fight for freedom of speech?

Unfortunately the people who do fight for this right dont get to pick and choose who gets it.

Take the good with the bad and move on.

Freedom of speech aye, but isn't it also our responsibility as Veterans, to stick up for our Brothers who have fought before us? That is our "freedom of speech".

ps: Sorry, I left out this thread (http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=PluckForum&plckForumPage=ForumDiscussion&plckDiscussionId=Cat%3a68888930-e375-49c9-89b5-f531feb9dabaForum%3a43be3189-e7f1-4046-9030-50c452039399Discussion%3a1c0506e4-a843-4d28-9a11-14ed8588f8a2&plckCategoryCurrentPage=0) where the picture is posted.

Semper Fi Brother and thank you for your service.

Who ever posted the garbage, enjoys it.
They most likely enjoy watching the American flag burned by a bunch of jerks..
Freedom of speach is one thing, but disrespect for our brothers is uncalled for.
This picture should be deleted for the sake of ALL onboard.:iwo:

I agree with you Mike...our sacred flag raising should NOT be touched or altered in any way just so someone could display it as a novelty. That photo means more than what these people are displaying it as...and by the frikkin French, too! I've seen that picture depict our old Corps Marines with a tree instead of the flag...as an Arbor Day celebration, too! I mean, does the freedom of speech also mean that anyone can demean anything at will? Including what people hold sacred and dear?! There SHOULD be some law of some kind...somewhere!! Marines lost lives for this picture and the French are making a mockery of it!! Dam the French anyway!!!

Thank you ecfree and Big Jim. Disrespecting our Active Duty Members and our Veterans is down right slander. Speak up about the current war, or wars past all you wish. That's "freedom of speech", but to defile an event that means so much to not only the Corps, but almost every American, is disgraceful. And for a publication to condone it is down right unacceptable.

Thanks again
Mike

I have found in my internet searches that most people on message boards make these types of post's to get attention or to create arguments Very few message boards have the quality of people that frequent here. Ignore that piece of **** message board and it will fade away.
The internet is a great thing but it has also brought all the cowards out of thier parents basements

Or....

We could always spam them with gay porn.

Couldn't have said it better. People who would never have the balls to take action where there might be consequences involved can now sit safely behind their keyboards, anonymously, like the chicken****s they are.

That's a new one for me, the first variation I saw was the one were they were lifting up the McDonalds' sign, the other was the recent one with the tree...no respect.

If someone is offended then they should complain to a moderator, they will take it down....(a little birdy told me).

If someone is offended then they should complain to a moderator, they will take it down....(a little birdy told me).

I wish that were true jetdoc. There have been numerous complaints lodged concerning this atrocity, both on the forum, and via e-mail. The only action that has been taken, is the removal of the complaints, and on two occasions, the banning of the complainers (one of whom is a personal friend, former Marine Gunny, and fellow Vietnam Vet.).

The POST Commander of the American Legion Post in Selmer TN, has not only had his complaints removed, but the "moderator" has allowed harassing messages aimed at him, while his complaints have been deleted.

Since this a Forum which is owned and operated by a "media publication" (the largest and only daily publication in Jackson TN), I had requested to sit down and talk with the online editor (who is the moderator of the forum) and his boss. The invitation was not only declined, but the moderator informed me that there was no way that he was going to remove that picture.

So, you see jetdoc, I am running up against an obstinate anti military journalist, who believes that freedom of speech is only theirs.

As of today, it is not only still there, but the moderator invited a couple of his friends to further criticize us who are complaining about it.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway,

Mike

I heard today that some kids walked up to a Vet to buy a Poppy with their donation, and they said upon recieving it, " Don't you have something better?" Makes me sick.

I am related to a WWII Marine (still with us) who would like nothing better, if he were able and younger, then to handle these liberal idiots like they did back in the day. A good lesson taught on the history and traditions of our Country and how to treat them with respect. A lesson one wouldnt soon forget the way i understood it. The recipient would be sore, long story short. Semper Fidelis

Just a few words to the scum, who post crap like this disrespectful picture.
In doing so you show lack of respect for your country, and your family, and everything they ever gave you.Not to mention the men who fought and died so you could have freedom of speach, from 1775 till this very moment.
You should honor yourself sir/ms by climbing to the top of the highist building in your city, and just before you you look down, look up and ask God for forgiveness.....................and jump.

Mike, I am speaking from experience brother. Yesterday I posted a pic and it got deleted the same day. I asked why and I was told it was offensive to native americans. (it was the poster about the original homeland security guys and fighting terrorism since 1492 and had 4 indians sitting there).

The moderator told me someone said it was offensive towards native americans and was taken down. In reality it should be offensive to those who came in 1492 and later, lol...it totally went over someones head it seems.

Anyway, I was informed if somethig if offensive then they will remove it, this was yesterday.

I do know about getting banned, a friend of mine had a thread going and it was locked down. It had no flaming or cursing or anything, it was one of the most non fighting thread ever. Well I start a thread asking what happened and I was banned for a week, lol. I was told because I was trying to start trouble or something like that...I was like, ooooookaaaaaay.

Isn't French the Latin for A..hole?

You guys are right. Somethings should be held as sacred and illegal to deface.

It breaks my heart that some many Americans died to free the French in both world wars.

Maybe if those pantywaisted bast==ds had to go out and put their lives on the line, and watch their friends die they might feel different.

Oh! I'm sorry guys. I forgot. It's our job to go and die so they have someone to p=ss on.

I found a small icon at the bottom right hand corner of the post with this obscenity on it and sent in a complaint.

Maybe if we all stick together we can get it taken down.

Isn't that the same reason oldsalt posted the picture? Freedom of speach. Sure the person has the right to mock the Corps. But if there were no voice to fire back at people like this there might not be a Corps left standing in the end.

I saw on another forum a person stated, "How come out national anthem is so boring?" That burned me up. These ungratful people that post this kind of crap are the people who hide behind their freedom.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
--John Stuart Mill

He sums it up pretty well.

Patriot34 - You need to learn the rules no matter how much you want to say something. This part of the website where you have no business posting. I might agree that our National Anthem is boring if you just listen to the first verse. However, that is their opinion and is not really that offensive.
