Hug-A-Hero gets national recognition

STAFFORD, Va. — The wives of two U.S. Marines found an ingenious way to comfort their children while their husbands were deployed to Iraq. They created soft, huggable “Daddy Dolls” with photo transfers of their military men for the kids to hold in the absence of their dads. Their story, featured in the April 30 Wilson County News, has triggered responses from across the area.

Now Daddy Dolls, Inc., the company Tricia Dyal and Nikki Darnell founded, is receiving national recognition with a segment on “Good Morning America,” which airs locally on KSAT-12, the San Antonio ABC affiliate. The interview will air Tuesday, May 6, during the “Good Morning America” broadcast.

Daddy Dolls Inc. produces soft fabric dolls with photo transfers of loved ones. The most popular, by far, have been created in the image of deployed parents, but the company also produces dolls of grandparents and other favorite family members — even the family pet!

In addition, the company sponsors Operation Hug-A-Hero, providing dolls to children in military families who have lost a parent in the line of duty or who cannot afford a Hug-A-Hero doll.
