Marines to participate in exercise

Beaufort's Marine Aircraft Group 31, along with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, is conducting Exercise Southern Fury II this week at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and at Townsend Bombing Range, Ga.
The goal of the exercise is to simulate scenarios pilots and ground forces would face in combat environments and help prepare them for upcoming deployments.
Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 will conduct convoy operations with Humvees and 7-ton trucks in the vicinity of the air station and Townsend Bombing Range.
Pilots from four Beaufort-based F/A-18 Hornet squadrons will train in everything from air interdiction and close-air support to forward air control airborne operations and strike coordination.
