Very good question. A question that was answered for me by my father when I enlisted. The answer is no.

In order to wear the EGA or any rank of the Marine Corps, you first need to earn it. There are many that sign the papers and go to bootcamp, but never walk across that parade deck. They will never be, nor were they ever, a private in the Marine Corps.

There is no doubt in anyones mind on this board that you won't make. I am certain you will. And when you do, you will understand.

Good luck!

Jerry

Static_sky,

I share in your excitement to becoming a MARINE,,
As well said by Shaffer and Drifter you'll need to complete
boot camp first, then become a Marine....
It will be one of the proudest days of your life,as it still is mine even after 44 years.
All the best to you,,Semper Fi

I agree with everyone else. You can only use the title and rank once you have earned them. In fact, recruits in training are not called Privates, theay are recruits. This is because you are not a Marine until you complete training. Maybe Shaffer is willing to design or post an icon that signifies you and others as members of the Delayed Entry Program. But, I don't think Private will be it.

Well you're an official "Poolee" now.

Then when you step on the yellow footprints you'll
be an official "Recruit."

And then when you walk across the parade deck and
here your D.I. say that beautiful word "DISMISSED!"..
you'll be an official "MARINE PRIVATE" or PFC ;)
