Retired Marine Sergeant plans day of fun, fishing for current class
BY LISA NEWELL Gulf Breeze News lisa@gulfbreezenews.com

May is Military Appre- ciation Month and one local Marine is spearheading an effort to give 40 Marines a day they will never forget ... a deep sea fishing trip into the Gulf of Mexico, a reception by people grateful for the contributions of these young Marines and their day's catch, prepared to order for their dining enjoyment.

Sgt. Jim Knell, USMC Retired, said the excursion, which will be Wednesday, May 14, will begin when the command will select the Marines who can participate by evaluating their performance. All the candidates are geared toward aviation maintenance, and are headed to serve the U.S. in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Marines will board The Entertainer charter boat for a day of deep sea fishing, then return about 1 to 2 p.m. to a crowd assembled on the docks at the Pensacola Beach Marina. Jeff Taggart has arranged, with the help of the Pensacola Beach Chamber, for the Hooters waitresses and a deejay to be on hand and there will be refreshments available for the public. Awards will be given to the Marines for biggest fish, smallest fish, and other categories, and then the Marines will head upstairs to The Cabana enjoy their seafood dinners.

Knell said the public is invited and encouraged to come out and show their appreciation for these service members who are willing to sere our country.
