Hi Ladies, I am honored to address you.

Every Marine is a Rifleman.....but some are a little rusty. Jacksonville has M-1 Garand Matches each year and there are monthly opportunities to get back into marksmanship and be as serious as you want to be. If a casual match or two or just a little plinking is of interest....or if you want to travel with us to the USA National Matches at Camp Perry each summer, we have a program for you.

You can shoot the AR-15 or M1A or other M-4 variants as well. We welcome you!

May 30,31, and June 1st there will be a fun match at Gateway Rifle & Pistol Club in Jacksonville and we will be shooting the M-1 Garand rifle in 30-06. We supply the ammo for the match and you get a new cool T-shirt. Friday is a free practice and the matches are Saturday and Sunday. Come and shoot with us and have a good time. Meet other Marines and civilians who shoot competitively for sport and fun.

Please contact me with your questions? If I can help you become a better marksman or get back into shooting, we will both win!images/smilies/nerd.gif

There are Junior shooting activities as well. You can mentor 1-2 or you can participate as a Post and help train and coach a group of high school JROTC young adults.

If you are already working on a program, I would like to hear from you as well. By coordinating and sharing ideas we'll all grow.

It has been said that the ladies can out shoot the men if given the proper training. The reason is that the ladies have more sensitive feeling in there finger tips. In the last few years this is starting to show up in different compassions. A few years ago there was a Lady Marine S/SGT that was the best shot at Camp Perry. I can't remember her name. I do know that she was from Provo, Utah.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I wish I was in the area. And yes, there have been many days where I have shot better than my boyfriend! (I gotta let him beat me sometimes)

There have been quite a few top women in competitive shooting. Margaret Murdoch was a world clas shooter in the 1960's. Launi Meili was a Silver medalist in the Olympics in 2000. 2004 women's 10 meter air rifle 11th place was Emily Caruso,
On highpower long range ( 800-900-1000 yds) there is Nancy Thompkins-Gallagher.
The Marine you are talking about is SSGT Roxane Thompson, I believe.

I was racking my brain trying to remember her name. I saw her get meritoriously promoted to Cpl on the 600 yard line in Quantico by General Krulak. This was during the interservice rifle matches and right after she shot a possible from the 600.

Sparkie+++++++++++I thought you knew better to teach your wife to shoot. We all know now who wears the pants in your family and it's not you. I bet it's all yes honey I will do that right now.

Good stuff Gunny. I shot at the Lejeune club back when Sergeant Major Bob Brady and Charlie Lauer were helping run things out there. I might be interested in getting a Grandaughter involved as soon as she is old enough. She's only 10, but wants to go hunting with me this fall.

Thanks for the post.
