Disabled Veterans Receive Free Segways

More than five dozen Soldiers, Marines, National Guardsmen, and Airmen who lost limbs and sustained other disabling injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan received special gifts this week. The servicemen and women received Segways to increase their mobility.

A Segway is a self balancing personal transportation device with two wheels. They were provided by "Segs For Vets" a program run by disability rights advocates for technology. Shreveport native, Staff Sergeant Nathan Reed, was one of the recipients. The Army Veteran lost his right leg and suffered shrapnel wounds to his right arm and left leg as a result of a car bomb explosion.
