Hey Marines, just curious as to if anyone while at bootcamp has seen a DI laugh. And I don't mean in a taunting deliberate mocking way, but a real one. Like an uncontrolable one maybe while a fat body was trying to get over an obstacle or something? I know they're not supposed to, just wondering if anyones seen it happen ;)

Yea i saw it happen.

It was the last night at the Depot and we were lined up for our hygeine inspection. Well, long story short, we had one Marine that just could not get anything right, at any time. The DI's were always on his case. (He made it and went on to the Intel field. Smartest Marine i knew. Studied Russian)
We, the platoon, made sure that all his gear was spotless. He was locked and cocked.
We, the platoon, made sure that we all had something wrong with us. i.e. shaving cream in the ear, boots not shined, finger nails dirty, etc. We also informed the DI about our condition, the wrong way. You know, typical first phase stuff.
The DI got to the Marine in the line and he shouted out the correct statement, Recrutie reports no medical, etc. Flawless.
The DI lowered his head to cover his smile and then you see him start chucking and laughing.
It was priceless.
Later that night, at lights out, (after we did a "few" excercises, the DI turned the lights out and said, "Good Night, Marines." First time we all heard that.

Yeah, I did a dead on impression of one of my DI's and performed it the last week at what we called the gong show. As I was doing it, another DI gave me an old campaign cover to wear and I looked over just as SSGT. Dumas busted up laughing and had to turn away. Only thing is, I went on tour, I did for all of my DI's the next day and then had to go perform it for each of the platoons in my company. It was great to catch that glimpse cause I knew I finally got him.

On another note, I wouldn't expect that at all because it's very rare and you're right, you don't need to be worrying about that crap at all.

SSgt Capps walks in looks at them and ask what was going on the other DI told hiom and he started laughing first time we ever saw him laugh.

I remember one or two head down laughs

And one where he had to storm off into the duty hut acting mad but we all knew he went to go laugh

I have two. A kill hat that started with us and then went up to the deck above us was watching me do PT and we were doing those stupid jumping apple picking type exercises, and for the life of me, I couldn't coordinate how to do them and looked like a complete ass doing them. He just laughed outright at how ridiculous I looked. The other was, being scribe, I was in charge of the hot trays for the sick bay commandos. Well, there was a lot of them and I come out of the chow hall and requested to speak to the DI and asked for a couple of faggots to help carry them. The DI kill hat just laughed out loud and grabbed a couple recruits.

The last few days on the Depot when you actually get to talk to your DI's like you're actually a human being you will see them laugh/smile a few times.

And believe me, it's one of the best feelings in the world, to share a laugh with someone that has tormented you for the past 12.5 weeks.

Oh yeah one of my DIs Drill Instructor Sgt. Simmons lost it and had to remove his Smokey and cover his face and collect himself. We where his first plt he trained and this kid just kept ****ing himself all the time. Since i saw him do it, needless to say he wanted to make sure I got f-ed up onthe QD for a few hours afterwards.

The only time a di will show his teeth is if hes about to bite your face off... or if he sees a fat person fall down.

My DIs laughed throughout bootcamp. There were plenty of dumbasses to laugh at.

Well, i figured i would have to tell this story some day. Might as well be with you all.

When: 3 days before graduation
Where: DI Duty Hut
Who: Every SDI & J
Why: For a laugh
What: As follows...

Towards the end of boot, i was standing firewatch or "gearguard" in our squadbay and almost every SDI and J hat from the company came over to the squad bay and into the Duty Hut. Suprisingly i didnt get messed with.

Thank God i thought to myself....

Roughly 5 minutes later, the door opens, and my Senior beckons me into the duty hut. They are all smiling upon my arrival. Great. My senior then instructs me to get on my face. Whatever, pushups, at this point who gives a damn.

Wrong again.

At this time while in the pushup starting position, i am then asked the question, "What are you going to do with Suzy when you get home recruit?"

I responded by telling them that i would commit sexual acts with the girl i so love. So to speak. Well this is obviously the answer they were hoping for. I was then instructed to "show" them what i would do to "suzy" when i got home. So there i was, three days away from graduation, dry humping the duty hut deck, to the tearful and joyful laughter of all the SDIs and J's from my company. Oh yeah, and i had to spank her as well, and talk dirty to. Very very wierd time in my life.

I die a little everytime i remember that story.

yes they laugh... what they make you do is funny... you are funny.

they will laugh when they destroy your squad bay, they will laugh when they make you drop off the obstacle course say "yoder! Use the force!" with a response of "Aye sir!" and said recruit letting go of the rope and falling into the icy waters beneath.

Recruit training can be fun if you see everything that's going on... however you are the one being trained and may not think it's funny. I do.
