Like all of the rest of us REMF office pogues, I did my job, did what the Corps asked of me and put up with the same BS everyone else did with the anti war hate mongers out in the world at that time who just loved spitting on uniformed personnel. Kinda like those Code Pinko's in Berzerkley...

I crushed two discs in my back while in Bosnia in a HMMWV. The AF was in charge of the PEB's back then and they flagged my a$$ for immediate medical seperation due to the extent of the injury...didnt matter that within months I was back to a 300 PFT. I wrote letters to theCMC, SgtMajUSMC, Prez, VP, every Senator, Governor, Congressman, Sec Def, and anyone else I thought mightl listen.. I guess they got tired of getting my letters, so while I was waiting for the appeals process the Sgt Maj Overstreet 'asked' my CO if I could come work for him to 'keep me out of trouble'. I didnt really have a choice. But, then again, I would have gladly gone back to the field with my brothers...you play the hand dealt ya, right? I spent two years with him, really, the best two years of my life. I learned alot about being a Marine from him. I was an O3 then, and before I could go to work for him I had to go through the VIP protection course first...Try being a Lcpl in a classfull of SrNCO's! I felt like a puppy in the middle of a pack of wolves!

I was an 0331 machine gunner. I trained and served with the M60E3 (Aco. 1/2) and within the last few months of my enlistment, the Marine Corps switched over to the "new" M240 machine gun that's presently serving with our Marines today.
I was in Okie - Camp Schwab in '95 and we shot the **** outa those new machine guns on a 3 day range shoot. We shot them until they broke. Brand new guns. Had to put them through their paces! Little things though. Nothin' that couldn't be fixed. We had runaway guns, etc. But they were a TON better than our old, rickity M60's. I think we set some sort of Marine Corps record for how many rounds our battalion used up in all of our issued M240's. We even opened up some old range that was overgrown with weeds and jungle. As I recall, there was some sort of restriction on firing machineguns on Schwab - we had working parties going 'round the clock taking all the tracers out of the bandoleers. It was an S load of ammo, I remember that much!
I got out before I really got familiar with that weapon. I was a Corporal and a squad leader, so my guys had much more hands-on with them than I did. Like I said, within a few months I was out.
I recall it was a solid weapon though.

OK So do to some ill communication I went to ITB Bravo at Geiger on became an 0311 however soon after graduating I found out that the paper to become a crew chief went through so I became a 6112/6172 CH-46E Plane Captain/Crew Chief then I got in trouble and lost the MOS and became a 2111 Armorer while in the armory I worked with Recon, Grunts, and Snipers and it was awesome!
