2 Marines detained in Okinawa taxi holdup

NAHA, Japan — The U.S. military has detained two Marines stationed in Okinawa over a 2006 taxi holdup in the city of Okinawa, sources said Friday.
The Japanese police are questioning the two in cooperation with the U.S. military and the police will send papers on them to prosecutors as early as next week, according to the sources.
The two will be handed over to the Japanese authorities under the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement if prosecutors indict them.
During the holdup on July 4, 2006, a taxi driver, then 64, was robbed of tens of thousands of yen by two unknown men.
