By North County Times

CAMP PENDLETON --- More than 200 Marines and sailors of the 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion are scheduled to return Wednesday evening from a seven-month tour in Djibouti, Africa.

The battalion served as the security force for Camp Lemonier, where it helped screen more than 202,000 vehicles and 412,000 people entering and exiting the camp at several areas, according to a statement issued from Camp Pendleton Tuesday morning.

It also conducted more than 160 joint patrols with the Djiboutian army throughout the battalion's 40-square-mile area of operations.

As a civil affairs force, the battalion also conducted more than 120 humanitarian assistance and civil affairs engagements in neighboring villages, the Marine Corps said. It also helped build a water-distribution system and made improvements at schools near the base.
